    Hi all,

I have a consultation this week to get the six month braces. I'd be interested to hear about other people's experience with them...

I'm in the East: what's the average price for them in this region also???

    Thanks!

    Hi Lian,

I just finished the six month process in late May, in Dublin, found it great but I do have to wear a see through retainer now for the next six months,

    Pros:
    • Quick and efficent
    • Great results (imo)
    • Not as painful as when I first had braces
    • Staff and all involved very helpful
    Cons:
    • It's alot of money to spend in a short space of time (mine were about 4,900)
    • I felt that if your teeth were very crooked or had a big overbite they are not suitable.
Although giving these examples i'm so glad I had it done, I know it is alot of money but, in my case, worth it

Do you have a wear a retainer full-time or just at night?

Could you PM me to let me know where you got your braces?

    Cheers!

I wear a retainer all the time, but not one person has noticied it yet, very discreet.

Also I have a fixed retainer on the back of my bottom teeth which is impossible to see.

    pm sent

good for you Bazmaiden. There are many orthodontists who offer this service so check around, it will probably be cheaper than 5K

Nice one Bazmaidan, I would like to point out thought that your case was extremely mild, and conventional braces are more suitable for cases with a worse starting point. Good final result you must be pleased.

Oh yeah definatly, to me they were for aesthetics

Had braces when I was younger (for 2 years) and so I had no overbite or any other dental issues but i never liked how they looked and was very insecure about them

now i'm delighted to have them done. and i'm going around like this guy -:D

    Hi Lian,

Did you get your quote yet? We do braces in Dublin from 3k. It depends on your problem. Please be wary that your orthodontist is not a genuinely experienced orthodontist if you can't find him or her on the orthodontic register of ireland (www.orthodontics.ie) then proceed with caution. Try www.braces.org to see what orthodontists do. Anyway if you are interested in finding out about braces we are on the list and can help you if you mail me back I'll give you my website for details on prices etc,

    Good luck

    Scottie

    Looking forward to those.
Don't forget, (1)Before, upper and lower together from the front with the teeth closed, and (2)After, upper and lower together from the front and profile, with the teeth closed, smiling and also with the lips relaxed.
Best of luck with the treatment.

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has tried the Six Month Braces? The reviews I've seen online couldn't be better....but are all on websites advertising them. I'm thinking there must be a catch....can they really be as good as they say?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried and tested....:D

I just got my 6 month braces off there just before Xmass and was absolutely deleghted with the results - I had always been self conscious of my teeth and would hide them with my hand when i smiled - but now my teeth look great and got free whitening too :D

    hi 674408

i think you answered your own question, all the good reviews are on the sites of those selling, caveat emptor (or something like that)

Is the catch the price?? They seem as expensive as any other braces

Really dont see what the novelty is???
    Anyone enlighten me?

The 6 month thing is obviously a gimmick although Im sure its true in many cases

Have a look at this post explaining what "6-month" braces are: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=69588829&postcount=2

I got 6-month braces fitted today, needed one extraction as well. These are for the clear ones not metal and it's costing me €3,800 as there is an offer on where the first 20 customers got €1,000 off.

Some years back I got a quote for braces and it was €5,800. Figured now was the time to bite the bullet if you'll forgive the pun.

I couldn't be bothered going through a 2 or 3-year process. Had a look at quite a few before and after examples during my consultation and asked quite a few questions and am confident enough in the dentist, so fingers crossed it will all go well.

I got quoted €2,000 for a flight to Australia, but there's a deal on, €1,800 from somebody else for a flight to Stansted, €1,700 for the 1st 20 customers, so I booked it..... couldn't be bothered with the long flight.

if you are having extractions as part of treatment then I cannot see you getting a good result from 6 month braces. If the teeth are crowded enough to need extractions then it can take 6 months alone just to align the teeth before closing spaces, finishing and detailing to give you a great result.

I think patients need to relalise that "6 month braces" are the same as any other brace, they are just taken off after 6 months. They often cost more then a typical 2 year orthodontic treatment and dont give an excellent result. The dentist doing the treatment has done a 2 day course in "6 month braces". A specialist orthodontist will have done a minimum of 3 years full time training.

" I couldnt be bothered...." it says it all. I bet the "offer" is still going on

Ye lads are so aloof (to be polite about it) it gives dentists a bad name, if an adult wants straight front teeth and 'couldnt be bothered' having braces for 2-3 years than they're perfectly entitled to, pity about ye if it doesnt fit in with ye're philosophy, there's more important things to a lot of people than ideal torque or angle classification

Ges lads lets not go here again, last time a 6 month braces thread went this way I & boards.ie nearly ended up in court. Lets agree that it works but in a limited way. Patients like it cause it fixes thing that patients want fixed, orthodontist don't like it for technical reasons and stability and aesthetic reasons. Posters here on boards have reported both good and bad reviews of the technique.

I had just one tooth extracted and am now a little worried at what I read on here to be honest.

But I'm finding it tough wearing braces for the past few days so I would have real issues with wearing them for maybe 2 years. It's the discomfort of them that I meant I can't be bothered with. Obviously I'm bothered about the condition of my teeth and the end result or I wouldn't be doing this in the first place.

Either way I think that due to the general physical condition of my teeth that I'm going to require some additional cosmetic work as well as the braces.

Unfortunately it's not like when you buy something and have 7 or 14 days to take it back so I now have to hope for the best I guess.

I appreciate the critical points that others have made.

    .

I wouldn't be worried if I was you, It was probably a crowded out lower front tooth you had extracted, it usually takes about 3 months for the space to close and 3 moths to align properly. the 6 month braces follow a well worn protocol (developed by an american orthodontist in the 1970s). Thousands have been treated in this fashion and if they didnt work it would have been well discovered at this stage, and believe me Americans tend to be fussy about their teeth.

Gekko, your treatment plan will be unique to you 6 months may work fine or it may take 2 and a half years. My OH had braces on for 3 years yet if she doesn't wear her retainers at night the next night she's in agony putting them on cos her teeth have moved so much. I on the other hand had about a 4 month course of braces to move some teeth and I get away with putting on my retainer once a week as my teeth barely move.

Your treatment will be unique to you please remember that.

Ovalu educate me as to who the american orthodontist in the 70's was and what his "well worn protocol" is. I can't recall.
