    Hi Guys.

I am importing leisure/sporting goods from pakistan and am wondering what costs I will be liable for.

I have agreed C&F costs with the manufacturer and he will have the goods sent to Dublin Airport for my collection. The C&F will be €900.

My question is what customs/duties/taxes will I be liable for. Also where in Dublin Airport do I collect the goods from?

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Regards

    You will pay 21% VAT.

You will pay duty at the applicable rate - there are other posts on here with the links for the rates and office in Nenagh etc.

The freight forwarder may charge fees to clear the goods through customs etc. Allow a few hundred € for this - you will have to suck it and see.

Regarding pickup point your trading partners will forward airway bill etc. to you in due course with details of who is carrying it and their address etc.

It could be say, Luftansa cargo so you will be looking for their office.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks for that.

What do you mean by freight forwarder?

What do you mean by freight forwarder?

Not sure what the correct definition is but the manufacturer in Pakistan will give it to a local freight agent who has the appropriate account with the carrier (say British Airways) who in turn fly the stuff to Dublin and a local Dublin company have the appropriate wherewithall and warehouse the items and to pay the customs fees etc.

For example in the past I used a company called toga freight which did all the leg work.

I would say on your first order you need to "suck it and see" and hope that after all is said and done you break even, don't expect to make any profit first time.

So I cant just pick up the items myself in Dublin Airport?

Can a freight forwarding company pick up the items on my behalf without my permission and then charge me as much as they want to get the items back off them?

Sorry for all the confusion but as im sure you've guessed \i have no experience with this.

    Hello Rexel2,

Upon arrival of the goods at Dublin Airport, the airline - or their representative - has the obligation to advise you of the arrival of the goods. If your tel nr is on the paperwork, they most likely will do that by phone.

    At that stage you have a few options ;

    1) You can ask the carrier to nominate an agent to act on your behalf. You can contact them and ask for their charges.

    2) You can instruct the carrier to pass the paperwork over to your nominated agent (this will require some leg work beforehand to select an agent that you trust to act on your behalf)

I would recommend to do some home work at this stage and get pricing from a number of agents. Most will charge you around the same figures for the airline handling (direct outlay to the airline, should be the same for everbody), customs clearance and delivery.

It would be an idea to have the agent in place before the goods are shipped from Pakistan so you can instruct your supplier to show the agent as notify party on the airwaybill.

Ask your supplier to email you a copy of the documents - airwaybill, invoice, packinglist and GSP form - and pass that to your nominated agent.

If you PM me with the exact details of the commodity, I can advise you on the customs classification and the rate of duty. With a GSP form from Pakistan the rate will definitely be reduced, possibly even zero. In that case you will only pay VAT. I can also recommend a number of agents to act on your behalf (I am 30+ years in this game)

    Cheers,
    Rudolf289
