Insurance and Mechanical Damage

Does anyone know what the insurance situation is if one has mechanical damage [head gasket & burned out pistons] that cannot be repaired except by replacing the engine? In this case an exact replacement engine cannot be found as the manufacturer discontinued using the particular engine of that year. The only option seems to be to scrap the car. Is this covered by insurance usually?

AFAIK no it's not. That’s mechanical failure not accidental damage.... Sorry to hear about your car… Did you try and source another second hand engine from a scrapped car etc?

    Best of luck,
