    Happy Bloomsday, I guess :)

I never read Ulysses, even though I have a degree in English. Always found Joyce to be a bit...tedious, to be honest.

Anyone else? Am I a fool not to have read one of the most famous books in history??

Currently reading it and I understand what you mean, it is quite tedious.

although on the other hand it's extremely interesting, witty and funny.

Tough going but I know i will stick by it until the end and enjoy it at the same time. :)

People always say how funny Joyce is and I can see that, but I also feel there's something cold at the centre of his work. I've read Dubliners and Portrait and while I could admire the brilliance, I never warmed to either.

I'd rather read his mate Flann O'Brien!

I must read some Flann O brien, I've heard a lot about him.

Yeah Im still struggling through Ulysses so I'll know better by the end of it.
Btw shouldn't this be in the literature forum? There's a huge Ulysses thread there if your interested :)

Funny you should mention it - I just discovered the literature forum last night! I'm fairly new to the boards, but I was delighted to find a load of interesting threads on books, so now I have to split my time between the creative writing and literature forums, which is twice the fun :)
