Change of ownership (Car)

    Hi Guys,

    Can you advise me please?

Sold a car at the end of May and had the lad fill out the change of ownership for and asked him to leave it with me. He took it and never changed the ownership. 3 weeks later, we get a parking fine for the car. Have advised this person of this and he claims he sold it on. Now he refuses to give me his full name and address to change the ownership from the date of sale. I have the whole sale documented and dated via emails and PM's etc so he would not be able to deny the sale date if it came to court.

We spoke to the regristration office and they gave us a form to fill out, however, we need the name and address of the person.

What is the best way to solve this mess, assuming he will not give me the information?

contact the gardai and give them any contact details you have for him....let them follow up on the fine and get an explanation from him as to why he never registered the ownership.

they would be able to find his address faster.

You are the one supposed to change the ownership. It is an offence not to. A lot of people don't know this. In addition, if your car is involved in a crime, as the registered owner you could get in more trouble. Report the matter to the gardai. Hopefully someone has been stopped driving it since you sold it and they have a name.
