I'm thinking about purchasing tomorrow a 2008 Peugot 407 SW ST 1.6 Diesel with very low Km on the clock

Can anyone tell me any issues with this car and if it will make a good family car?

What price should i expect to pay on a straigh purchase?

This is a picture of the model of the car :

    I know!!!

Looks a pretty tasty estate, good fuel economy and the right tax bracket.... I'd imagine its going to be worth a hell of a lot more than a 2007 1.9 Passat with crazy tax

Sarason must have a pug, judging by his expert opinion...

There's a 05 of the same car for sale by someone in my workplace, I saw it for the first time yesterday. I think they're gorgeous. The 1.6HDi seems fairly good and they're bound to be comfortable.

I've had a Citroen for the last five years and, despite the common bad press, its been great and we still enjoy driving it (apart from servicing and tyres its had a cambelt, brake light switch, oil seal and power steering pipe in that time, the latter three fitted easily at home and costing a total of about €90).

If I could justify it at all, and find a good one with low mileage for around €5k or €6k, I'd be sorely tempted, even though I don't need to change car.

And by the way, when you're buying second-hand, high early depreciation is good. So don't be afraid to take advantage of it.

Dont have a pug. Wouldnt buy/drive a french car for love or money. I agree they are a pretty estate and the tax is cheap but the depreciation is savage.

Have a 04 407 saloon 1.6 hdi atm but would like an 08for the low tax....
The 08's have the modified balljoints which gave trouble on the early 407's.
With the sw's the rear wipers have caused problems in the past....maybe worth checking it for excess play.
The 1.6 hdi's are a great little engine with plenty of punch even in the sw's...the 2.0 hdi's have a nice bit more power but the mpg's suffer.
Enjoy and best of luck with your purchase.....;)

Yep I've an 07 407 1.6 hdi and love the car. Have it two years and not one problem. Very comfy car.

The whole French car thing is a load of crap.

Right, which is why the 2008 above is such good value.

Very refined car. Though, I think there are supposed to be issues with DMF's etc...

Much quieter and nicer to drive than the B6 passat I used to own FWIW.

I’ve a 2006 2.0HDI 407 for over two years now and I couldn’t fault it. It’s never left me down nor needed anything done with it bar normal servicing. If you’re happy with the price I wouldn’t hesitate about buying that 407.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Purchased the 2008 Pug 407 SW today. Must say it's not a bad car for the cash...

Ok the 1.6HDI engine is never going to be the super fast but it's sufficent. Ideal as a family car, the glass roof is a lovely touch. Overall I'm very happy. Seems very very comfy...

Thanks to everyone who gave an opinion

If your buying it from a garage and its covered 140k (87k mls) then get them to replace the diesel particle filter and topup the additive...peugeot charge around €800 for same job...if they don't agree then get them to drop the above price.
Maybe check the lower balljoints for rust...these are €100 a pop (to buy only)
Other than that insure it has a good service history...Best of luck with it..;)

e.g. notice the rust forming on the lower balljoint in the below pic...
