Resident advisor is still a phenomenally good portal.
Even if they're chart system is being absolutely ruined by mailing list spamming crap labels.

whatpeopleplay is pretty much all I use at this stage. Anything interesting that they don't have will generally reach me through other channels anyway.

thehypemachine isn't too bad either - you can throw an artist you like in and see all the instances where they come up on other blogs.

Here's a big list of mine, some may be gone to sh1t so I'm unsure but I've culled about another 20 in the last while that have been bad. Also there's a mix of styles in there, not just electro house - everything from tech house, house, disco, dubstep, d'n'b etc. It should keep you going for awhile! Mind you, there is a huge amount of overlap on many of these

    Big Stereo
    Pelski
    Discobelle
    Sythethic Rocks
    The Fast Life
    Electric Zoo
    Palms Out Sounds
    Phase 02
    Penned Madness
    Hot Biscuits
    Stoney Roads
    Voulesrandom
    Disco Demons
    Noise Porn
    Ilicitronix
    YesNo
    Earmilk
    Raketa
    The Mahogany Blog
    Get Hyped on This!
    Gotta Dance Dirty
    Robot Dance Music

how long are you playing for.4 minutes x 2'500 is alot of hours of music.

id just make sure you have enough of each sort(warm up stuff and peak hour stuff).

14 tracks could fill an hour

oh alryt ye see im only really new just over the past two years iv been listening to electro the real mainstream kind of stuff like bloodybeetroots and mstrkrft etc but since christmas iv been liken other unkown artist etc
iv been told by djs and people that if you play and song for more than 2 and a half minutes your a joke or what ever etc but when i played before in mates tent in load it a was abig enough marque i played a few tunes to warm up but then i played the hard kind of bass and fidget electro and thats what i love playing . and also it came to my attention from being around dj's and talking to them playing the same set/ same tunes every gig isnt kool ??? i knid of laughed aand thought that couldnt be right

i think your being misinformed to be honest.most tech house, eloectrohouse tracks are 6 or 7 minutes long.

give bout 1 1/2 minutes for the intro and outro and your left with 4 minutes or so.

most djs play the entire song.

your friends logic is flawed because some tracks have one big massive breakdown that maybe happens at around the 3 minute mark or so.

the songs have intros and outros in them because thats where your meant to mix them in with the other tracks.

as for not playing the same set twice there is a little truth to that.
ultimately as a dj you strive to pick your tracks based on how the crowd react so if your rocking a preplanned set that is bombing you cant really change or adapt to the crowd.

theres certainly nothing wrong with playing a few of the same songs gig after gig if thwere getting the right reaction.

ive often played a track 2 in a set before and it works.

That quick chop mixing is something for an experienced DJ to pull off (the kind that can get 20-35 tracks in an hour), I would worry about it for your first year or two! It also really depends on the style of music. It can sound good but generally it can annoy a lot of people, especially when they're expecting the second/third buildup/chorus of the track to follow.

What level of experience do your friends have that told you all these tidbits of information!?

That gets into what I term the jazz quandry.

Basically, if you're throwing 20 tracks an hour into a mix then I reckon you're probably doing it to keep yourself entertained - your first duty is to the crowd; if you're getting a good reaction off them then **** the naysayers.

when im in clubs or what ever i find my self dancing away having a laugh and theres a great tune on and you know there a build up coming and then a massive drop but then they switch out of that song and into the other and take the beat out of it . . there is nothing more i hate !!! so i wouldnt want to do that from my perspective about getting into dj'ing , i want dj and play things i havent seen or heard i want to start doing what i want and see what people think. when my friends start talking about dj'ing etc i dont really listen cause half of the time they are just running there mouth talking rubbish but it made me think when they started talking about how long a song should be the way they mix loads of songs in ( it f*ckin sounds stupid and doesnt fit)

i like playing good songs that have different breaks downs/ build ups and drops not just the songs that have the same thing the whole way through!!
from what i see in clubs is tat people like a good song with a good beat etc something diferent so i get when you say you have to go by the crowd etc iv done that before but they really didnt care and they wernt into electro etc they were new to it because it was my friends birthday in his gaf but i wouldnt really know how to go by a crowd in a electro club etc because i havent tried an electro b4 and i would be kind of worried about what the other dj's would say about my mixning skills , im a person that doent give a sh*It about what people say but this would worry me

if a dj is switching tracks every 2 mins then he's bottled it and is trying to find a track that'll hold the crowds attention, pick the right songs and there is no need for for tricks and
fx, the right record is all a crowd needs, to much changing and the crowd will drift to the bar not the floor.
