internet tyres ?

I bought tyres off the internet because 1) they were cheaper and two I could not get the ones i wanted in Ireland - they were off road tyres.

So happy with my new purchase i went along to a big tyre shop in cork and asked if they could put them on the car...
Was told that under new simi legislation and because of a crash in galway they could only fit tyres they supplied.. :(

    anyone else have this ??
i actually got them fitted elsewhere in the end.

I know they have no obligation to fit them but his face changed when i said i had my own tyres and could see that he was sick of people bringing their own with them..
Well his loss if he did not want the business of fitting and balancing.

I am pretty sure that there is no law forbidding them to fit the tires for you.

What might be the case is that the tires themselves were not legal, or were not legal for your type of vehicle?

You said SIMI legislation, afaik SIMI doesn't make the law, but of course they can issue guidelines to companies that are under their umbrella-ella-ella-ella (sorry, have to do this :D)
As long as the tires are of the correct type for the car and have the all-important E on them (do they? No NCT if they don't) I don't see why they couldn't fit them.
Sounds more like a case of "don't piss in my soup" to me at which overpriced Irish outlets excel when people do shop around.
It's in fact an Irish disease, you don't like my product? Well, fcuk off then and see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere, hur hur hur (knowing in the bad old days you couldn't). Oh you DID fcuk off?
HOW DARE YOU! You unpatriotic swine!
In fact if Ireland could pick and choose what they wanted in Europe, import restrictions and punitive taxes on everything coming in the country would be first. Export is fine.
So, where did you get your unpatriotic swine tires? C'mon, I need some rear tires soon! ;)

Search for on Eiretyres.com for a fitter in your area who'll do the job. Plenty will, it's just the ones that seem to like selling rubbish tyres for too much money that baulk at fitting tyres they didn't supply.

ha ha...hes actually on eiretyres as a fitter. :)

he also mentioned that the tyres could be from china ??? and what did he sell my buddy about two weeks ago, a set of chinese tyres that at the slightest drop of rain will spin you around in circles...

Cheapest 215/45/17 on camskill that's in stock is this,

    http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m54b0s15p57844

    ~€55 euro delivered plus fitting.

    Rang a local tyre fitter,

"Hi, I can get a 215/45/17 tyre for €60 fitted, can you beat that?"

And they did, and a "robbing, expensive" Irish company, gets my business for the third time round. Fitted and balance within an hour of the call ;)

excellent..at least some places know the value of customers...the place i went to was in carigaline in the end and could not recommend them highly enough.

www.alloy-wheels.ie in Blanchardstown (d15) does have very good deals too, they will match Camskill very closely most of the time, which is cheaper than Eyretires anyway. Just get the tire/price from Camskill, call them and ask them what the best they can do compared to Camskill.
They are local, have a large stock and dot fit/balance tires on spot.

I am not affiliated with them...just a happy customer

Yeah, they are pretty useless anyway, plus they are very expensive on tires and other things...Sometimes they have good deals, but this is rare.

Last year i when i had my hilux surf i decided to get some decent mud terrain tyres.

Looked around a good few places in cork area, all i got was lots of negative comments & even one twat asking me; what ya want them for?! One so-called expert tried to convince me that the tyres i wanted were in fact dangerous & would not suit my vehicle, told him that i had read hundreds of good reports about said tyres & also had been recommended them by dozens of hliux.co.uk members but no, no he was convinced he was right & not the hundreds of people who actually had bought & tested these particular tyres.

Two tyre sellers said they could get them alright for 900 & 1000 euro respectively!!!:D:rolleyes:.

I went & ordered them from a place called Roughtrax4x4 in the uk. Price including delivery; 610 euro.;)

Place i got them fitted, i got this reaction, i don't know if they'll fit/you know the car will ride fierce hard on them?/ can't see you getting more than a year out of them....etc etc.

Heres my advice to anyone looking for decent offroad tyres, go online & save yourself a fortune & don't listen to anyone selling tyres here.

I went in to get an exhaust fitted that I bought privately, he wouldn't fit it.

Went back the next day and bought the clamps and pipe myself, and fit it myself.

I wouldn't mind only for he gave me the clamps and the pipe for near nothing LOL

When did SIMI (The Irish motoring golf society :D) get the power to make or pass legislation?
