I don't know, why is the thread title so much clearer than the body of the post?

Full quote from the BBC site:
"There's a very attractive girl in the second row, dark . . . and dusky. We'll maybe put a wee word out for her."
Mr McAveety went on: "She's very attractive looking, nice, very nice, very slim," before adding: "The heat's getting to me."
The MSP also said: "She looks kinda . . . she's got that Filipino look.
"You know . . . the kind you'd see in a Gauguin painting. There's a wee bit of culture."
He then commented: "I would mind having a sniff of her haggis, num num."

Okay, I made the last bit up.

Because he has something else much more sinister to hide that might get out if he tries to brazen out his comments.

By the way, it's not a criminal offence to punctuate a sentence.

Reaction to his comments has been swift and harsh:
Glasgow SNP MSP Sandra White said she was "shocked and disgusted" at his remarks.

She said: "The fact that they were uttered by Mr McAveety as the convener of a parliamentary committee which had been considering extremely important and sensitive issues makes it even more sickening."

She added: "His stupid comments were at best sexist and sleazy – and at worst sexist, sleazy and racist. Mr McAveety does not speak for Scotland's Parliament, and he does not speak for Glasgow. He must consider his position in Parliament."

So she's a member of parliament and doesn't understand the term sexist, or racist for that matter! Fair enough to say his comments were inappropriate and a little sleazy but it wrecks my head when people play the sexism/racism card at the first opportunity, warranted or not.

Indeed. Sandra White, who made the comment, is a long-time anti-racism campaigner and I can't help thinking that she doesn't do the cause any favours here.

She is also famous for calling the Union Flag "the Butcher's Apron" and then (falsely) denying that she ever said it. Edit: not saying it as such, but approving the press statement an email.

But there you go. They really do have more important things to worry about in Scotland at the moment than this sideshow.

Thread title should stress that Irish politicians and those high up rarely quit for ****ing anything, and if they do, they are well bloody rewarded on the way out.

Exactly. In this country acting the "cute hoor" seems to be the only maxim besides "what's best for the party......".

You can see her at the 29-31 second mark.

Too far away to definitely say she's hot, but she's got potential (i.e. a pulse:D)

Ah you mean UK politicians? Well there is a big difference as to what the UK folk will tolerate, and what the good 'oul Irish lads tolerate. Accountability is the reason, something the Irish "politicians" have none of.

To be very frank I'm glad Irish politicians don't resign over crap like this.

Now if only they would resign over serious stuff.

The UK ones resign because of the very public humiliation that would be forced on them by whatever opposition party, live on tv. It would be deemed detrimental to their party, & cause political damage.

Our Dail coverage is buried on TG4, and any snippets RTE decide to show on the news. Our lads answer what they want, how they want, if they want. Its a very different scene to most political arenas. Try as you might, you will not find Barrack Obama addressing the congress with his hands in his pockets, or David Cameron sitting down while "addressing" an issue.

Your glad our politicians dont resign over trivial matters? I can tell you if they did, there wouldnt be a politician left in the country. I urge anyone to spend 15 mins watching Dail Beo, and then change over to PMQ's for 15 minutes. Its quite starkly evident how low our political standards are, in respect of what we are prepared to put up with from our "lads" against other nations expectations of their leaders.

That is so ridiculous, his comments weren't appropriate to be said in public, but he thought he way saying them privately. It was mildly sleazy, but certainly not sexist or racist.
