I'm heading to England next week, does it work out cheaper to exchange money here before I go or just take money out as I go in England...

    I've never noticed much difference.

I bank with Ulsterbank and use Royal bank of Scotland or Natwest ATMs and you don't pay anycharges. i find that the cheapest way.

ATMs generally work out better as long as you withdraw large sums.

Most of the bigger Marks & Spencers also have a Bureau de change and are also commission free

That depends on your bank. My credit card has no cash withdrawal charges and even if the ATM operator should charge a fee, my bank refunds it. Give your bank a ring, check what yours is like.
