Howdy.Im currently working a contract role that is due to expire in early August.Still no indication of whether or not I will be offered an extension or be made perm so obviously Im putting the feelers out in terms of other companies. There are jobs going in the sector Im in at the moment so I dont want to delay until the contract expires and be maybe left without anything.

The problem is getting time of for potential interviews.A helluva lot of people where I work are on leave or will be in the next few weeks so its leaving very little time to book off.If I get called for an interview it will involve me taking a day off work (commuting up and down etc) so with the company being short staffed the opportunity to get a day off, particularly on short notice, will be next to impossible.

Im toying with the idea of speaking to my HR manager and basically telling her that Im applying/will be applying for other jobs(because as far as my contract goes I have a job until August and thats it) and may need to take days off at short notice.I have no quibble with using up holiday days or even taking any days off as unpaid leave but Im unsure about whether I should give that kind of info to management.

Any ideas/advice as to what I should do?

    Cheers.

The position they have left you in leaves you with no alternative but to seek imployment and if i am correct they have to give time to attend interviews.

as a contract role i dont see how it would be a huge issue with the hr department i know a lot of people who work like this and coming to the end of their contract if its not going to be renewed then they take holidays to go for interviews
maybe it could be a good thing saying something that way you might find out sooner if your contract is being renewed or not
but i dont see how in this climate that any employer has the right to stop you finding work if they are not keeping you on and if your honest with them then i see no reason why they wouldnt accommodate you
in saying that you work there and know the lay out of the land best of luck with it and i wish you all the best in your interviews
