can Mac Mini transmit wifi?

    Hi,

Just bought a mac mini...my first ever mac, really looking forward to getting stuck into it. I bought one of the "old" ones before they sold out, as I think the price hike for the new one doesn't match the spec hike.

Anyway....I have a wireless router that was connected to my PC. It was giving a bit of trouble so I pulled the plug on it and just put my broadband cable directly into the pc for the last year or so.

Can the mac mini act as a router? I have an iphone, and it would be great if I could browse on it using the mac as the wifi provider.

    Is that possible?

    Thanks.

You can share an Ethernet connection via Wifi.

Great, so does that mean that when the mac mini is switched on and physically connected to my modem, I can access the web over wifi on my iphone? Is that straightforward to set up?

Yes, System prefs>sharing>Internet sharing. It should be straightforward.

    Yup.

Very straightforward. I've had errors though if the number of machines connecting to the MacMini WiFi goes above 4 though.

If you want it for yourself then it should be fine! Password protect it!

when you restart the mac it tends to drop the Wifi sharing option, there is a small hack however that corects this and keeps it open on restart.

I will see if i can find it for you
