Best video camera for €500

    Hi guys,

Looking to buy a video camera with a budget of €500. It will initially be used to capture snippets of a wedding (I'm aware of the limitations of a 'cheap' consumer camera but this is what we have to use) and will then be used for family occasions etc.

High def and SD card compatible (we already have an ixus and a 450D) would be preferable.

I'm getting lost in review sites and can't see the wood for the trees anymore.

    Was thinking of this:

    or
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/4691215/art/canon/legria-hf-r16-camcorder-b.html
    All advice most appreciated.

    Thanks v much,

If you're interested I might be sticking up my Canon HV20 up on adverts in the next few days. I wont do the whole salesman speech as you'll find a hell of a lot of reviews for it online (and I can confidently tell you every one of them will tell you its an amazing camera). Its streets ahead of what you'll find for that price otherwise. The going rate on adverts.ie seems to be in or around 500 but I could let it go for 400. Incidently its the NTSC version but it literally makes no difference at all other then you can record in 24p instead of 25p (24p being the standard for every single hollywood movie you've ever seen). Ill be able to confirm in the next few days if Im selling or not, and even if not then Id definately recommend trying to pick one up second hand.

this is a review of the JVC HD cam i bought last year to replace my ageing JVC miniDV cam, i paid €650 for it in currys, saw it only advertised and sold there on adverts for €350, whoever got it for that price was an absolute bargain IMO!
