    Hi All,
I'm running my first ever race on Saturday week in the Dunshaughlin 10k and was wondering if any of you had run it and whether it was a good one or not for a beginner. Also there's apparently a big feed afterwards and I wondered was that open to families too or just to the participants?

    Thanks in advance.

It's a smashing race, thoroughly well organised on closed roads and well-supported. I'd say that there was a good mix of runners though, being a club race, doesn't come into the 'fun run' category.

I think the post-race food and entertainment is open to families (though personally I prefer a beer downtown.)

It's a fabulous race and very good for pb attempts. Really well organised by good club people and suitable for all standards.

The local club do a good job in getting local "fun" runners out to this event so a good spread of paces throughout the pack.

I'm registered but don't think I'll be running it now. Not a chance in hell I'll be ready to race in a weeks time.

Here's the race profile Woddle posted previously. Doesn't look like there's anything spectacular from a hill perspective, though he did slow down substantially in mile 5. :)

No hills. There's a slight lift in the road at one point, somewhere in the second half, but I wouldn't call it a hill.

This is a great race. Very fast course and always attracts some very good front runners. I've set a 10k pb here twice. Won't make it this year due to other commitments but I'll race it again next year.

Speaking as a back-of-pack runner, yes there is a hill. Kicks in about the 7k marker.

im a local and am running this year for the 1st time having helped out in previous years ..

i know the roads well and agree with meathcountysec.. the course overall is not hilly but there are a few annoying "inclines" that may catch a few out...

Its a great event v well organised and should be enjoyed by all taking part

Thinking of heading in this direction tomorrow. I'll be going from south county Dublin (near Bray) along the M50 corridor if anyone wants a lift out and back?

Just back from this.....have to say it was a lovely evening. Very well organised (although I didn't notice a timing mat at the start). There was both mile and kilometre markers which made it feel like you were never far from a marker. Pretty warm evening, was soaked in sweat by the end. The locals were brilliant with their tables of water too. I struggled after the 6k point but managed to finish at about 43'04'' which I was happy enough with.

Great race. The route was tougher than I´d thought it was going to be, bloody hills! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the route goes through a nice area.

I was also wondering what the story was with the not having a mat at the start

Despite a major wardrobe malfunction, I really enjoyed the race. I can see why it's one of the longest running road races in the country, as I'll most certainly be back (with my running shoes stapled to my forehead). Congrats to Dunshaughlin AC, for putting on one of the best organized road races I have ever participated in. 5 stars.

Great race but have to agree about the start, no mat and no sign or line to know when to start my clock (I started on the right hand side of the road). Considering everyone had timing chips, it was a bit odd as i started a bit back from the start.

However, well organised, good course, nice weather, showers and changing rooms, good crowd out cheering and a great spread of food afterwards so well done to the Dunshaughlin club, a great job done by you all.

Personally i think the course is lighting fast despite the two little hills at 6km and 7 km. Knocked nearly 2 minutes of my PB without forcing it too much so i'll be back next year to aim for a sub 40 all going well.

Hello to all the folks i met tonight from on here. I'll not mention names cause i'll leave someone out by accident.

This was a very well organised race and I really enjoyed it. The course was well marked, loads of marshals and the locals were out in force to cheer everybody on.

The lack of a mat at the start was a non issue for me, come to think of it the last few races I took part in had no mat at the start. Probably because the numbers weren't massive and everyone passed the start line in a few seconds.
The start line was marked on the left side of the road and the race started a few meters in front of it

I did this last night and I can't recommend it highly enough. For people considering it for next year here's what you get:
    • Easily accessible from Dublin by car or bus
    • Race HQ, start and finish very well signposted
    • Loads of car parking with stewards directing
    • Great set-up for number pick up with separate tables for teams, pre-booked and pay on the night
    • Nice cotton t-shirt - wasn't expecting this - and pre-race goodies: gel, reflective armband
    • Great grub afterwards - sandwiches, lovely coffee, sports drinks, cakes, biscuits, Mars Bars, lemonade...
    • Course clearly marked in miles and km
    • Well marshalled on quiet roads
    • Well sheltered roads, there was a strong breeze at race HQ but it never hit us out on the course
    • Splits called out at 1m, 5k and 6m
I don't think the lack of a timing mat at the start was a big issue - with the road being so wide it might have been difficult to arrange, and I reckon everyone was across the start in a few seconds.

Another quality production by Dunshaughlin AC last night. A good bit more windy than last year, and it seemed to be blowing straight into our faces on the last 4km back into the finish. Like the black t-shirt and factor 30 suncream. Roll on next year.

Hi All, It was my first ever race after 10 weeks training - going from struggling to run a half mile to running 10km in 54 mins felt fantastic!

To those who advised there were no hills, I was cursing you between the sixth and seventh km when that rise sapped almost every last drop of energy out of me - I would like to hug the woman pushing a buggy at around 9k who told me 9k was around the corner only to be greeted with an 800m marker

Great race and congrats to the organisers, runners and locals!!!

Did I manage to capture your expression?? :D What was your number? I'm still trying to see if I can make a way to index the images by runner number, but it's damn hard. But, the picts (so far) are in order (as good as I could photograph) of people crossing the line.

Still working on the picts. With over 600 runners, it takes a little time to go through all the picts taken.

I must say, it was (again) a brilliantly organised race. Well done to everyone who took part.

You got me alright, but thankfully I don't think my expression was as bad as others who were involved in sprint finishes! I was #602 (#53 in the results), 38/100 in your photos, showing off my entirely unsuitable footwear choice!

    Thanks for the photo.

Paulw, you caught me with a terrible expression on my face. It could only be used to put over the fireplace to keep young children away from the fire.

How much does it take for me to get you to burn the negatives??;)

Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday's race. Had a PB of 52.03, so delighted with that. Have to say everyone was so friendly, from the lady at registration, the traffic marshalls to the guy who cut the chip off my shoe at the end! And all the locals out cheering us on and with jugs of water.
And yes, the nice lady pushing the buggy who told me too that I was at 9k and that I was a 'great girl'.
Would love to have hung around afterwards for a cuppa, but a certain 5 year old wanted to go home.
Thanks to everyone involved, definitely one for the calendar next year! :)

Quite surprised by the lack of comments on the start - and that's not the lack of a starting mat.

There were no marshals at the starting line and from what I could see the race started at least 40m ahead of the line marked on the road for start and the sign on the left hand side. I'm guessing this was part of the reason as to why there wasn't a single runner who posted a negative split as far down as I scrolled in the results. That and a tougher second half of course...

Wasn't there myself so can't comment but I know race organisers do this sometimes, it's like a pseudo start line but the real start line could be further down. Stops them having to reverse the field in mass back behind the start line.

I felt like they were moving the markers back as I approached lol, have run 10k in training but with the latter half of the course that bit more difficult found it a long, long road!

    Can't wait for next year!!!:D

A bit confusing at the start alright, wasn't sure if they were moving us forward or what, but then realised the race had started and I was caught sleeping at the back. Managed to get a negative split myself and there are a few other on the result listing who managed it aswell. Really well organised event though, and some amount of sambos afterwards. Well done Dunshaughlin.:)
