Good to know Betterman. There were reports of them in Irish waters earlier this year http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0105/breaking55.html

There was a lot of jelly's at Achill Island 2 weekends ago but these were only the 'Common' one - fairly harmless. Wouldn't fancy seeing a Man O War beside ya in the water!

I did a post on jellyfish on my blog a few weeks back - http://www.surfaroundireland.com/2010/05/jellyfish-around-irish-waters.html

It has a bit of info on the different types and what to do if your stung.

Is it Global Warming or what thats bringing the more deadly ones to our shores?

Does anyone know if they can sting you through a wetsuit or is it just hands, head and feet to worry about?

They can't sting through wetsuit, but if their stingers get stuck on the wetsuit and you go to wipe them off...

Just thought some of you all might be interested in this research project : http://www.jellyfish.ie/index.asp.
Their jellyfish id page will give you information on the common jellyish of Ireland and whether they sting and when to expect them.

And if you're on the east coast and feeling particularly altruistic, you can report any jellyfish sightings here: http://www.jellyfish.ie/jellyfish_sight.asp.

As a group that are out there on the water almost all year round we can add quite a lot to this database, as well as increasing our own awareness about the sea we use.

(not involved in this project personally, just work in a similar area)
