Problem with brand new '10 Fiesta

Hi lads, got a new Fiesta a month ago but am having a strange problem with it. When I arrive home in the evening I have to turn off my car so that I can open the gate for the house using the keys.
When I go back to start up the car, it won't start. It will only start if it is left for approx. 5 mins. This problem happens no other place, only at my home and it has never happened with any other car before.
I have given the car back to the garage so they can see what the problem is, but so far they don't have a clue what the problem with it is.
Would appreciate if anyone could help with this, or even if they have any sort of an idea as it's driving me nuts.
    Thanks :D

Not your problem. Your car is under full manufacturers' warranty. Tell your Ford dealer you'll take your car back when it's fixed and in the meantime you'll need a courtesy car. At their expense.

your keeping your car key on the same bunch as your gate key.

Is there any external force (power transformer, big ass magnet etc.) that might be scrambling the immobilizer chip in the key?

If the immobilzer chip is RFID, it could easily be scrambled by something like this, but thats just me hypothesing, and I could stand to be corrected on that. My car electronics knowledge is fairly basic.

When you park the car to open the gate is the car parked on the flat or on a slope ?

If on a slope does it slope towards or away from the front of the car ? (ie is the front higher or lower than the back)

Must be something in the area - a few years ago I had a Volvo that refused to start again when I parked outside a certain petrol station. I had to push it a few feet in neutral and only then would it start. Never happened anywhere else.

There is nothing wrong with your car - don't waste time and money trying to sort it out. Try experimenting parking in slightly different places when the fault occurs.

    as someone mentioned all ready,
Do you have a remote on your bunch of keys for something else other than fords remote, like your gate. If so, this is the problem. Keep external remotes away from your RCL ford key.

If you've a remote for the gate keep it away. If it keeps up get in touch with comreg.

I remember a while ago there was a faulty baby monitor and whatever frequency it went to it was affecting lots of cars in the area comreg found the problem in the end

Along the lines of bazzy and bongi - there is a chance that there is some interference with the signal that goes between the key and the ECU. We had an RFID transmitter near the main door and it was interfering with everyones remote central locking.

    Is it a motorised gate?

Does it only happen one way - ie you only mention it happening in the evening - does it happen in the morning?

Lots of things can interfere - can you hear any electrical buzzing or crackling? Any mad transmitters in the area?

An interesting test would be to try the same procedure with another fiesta!

My money is on external RF interference scrambling up the car-key's tiny immobilizer RF signal

This RF (Radio Frequency) interference could come from anywhere, RFID swipe card systems, faulty wi-fi router, HAM radio, FM/TV signals, aerial boosters, video sender units, basically anything with an aerial

Disconnect anything thats near your gate and try it again

    Bump

Thanks for the replies so far lads...could be an interference with the other stuff on the keys alright

@knipex, it is only a slight slope uphill.

Oh shock horror!!! I left my car running for 60 seconds whilst unlocking the gates!! Lock me up and throw away my license....

To OP: any other chipped keys or remote fobs on your key ring might be causing the issue you describe.

Try just having the ignition key on it's own and seeing if the problem re-occurs.

Try parking in a different place when opening the gate. I definitely sounds like your getting RF interference. Have read a few stories recently about modern vehicles not starting in places where older ones did.
