Summer is always quiet. Used to be that Feb to Sep was really quiet. Dead Rising 2 the first week of September probably the next big release on PS3. Pick up Joe Danger on PS3, it's tonnes of fun.

It's got everything from an 8 to a 9.5 in terms of reviews. It's an excellent game with loads of content and a track editor. Just because it's a downloadable game doesn't mean it's not worth it. Some of the most enjoyable games I played last year were downloadable games. I've a stack of unplayed 360 games from last year, and a couple of PS3 games and I'm still playing Joe Danger mainly at the moment.

Spent an hour the other night just trying to perfect one track. It stays on the right side of frustrating pretty much all the time. I see summer as XBLA/PSN game time, with Xbox's Summer of Arcade and all that. It's usually when I buy some games I missed over the last year and try and catch up on too. Games that got decent but not great reviews, that can be gotten for cheap and worth a shot. Go into GAME or wherever and see what deals they have at the mo.

may indeed have to backtrack. if there were a plethora of decent FPS's i overlooked it'd be fine, but i checked em all out long time ago - haven't looked in the store for a while with it being awash the game add-ons.. so will top up the 3V n check some stuff out ;-

Do you have a 360? I was in a similar position last Summer and ended up picking up a 360 in September for the exlcusives I'd missed over the years. Had a great few months with Left4Dead, Fable II, Mass Effect, Dead Rising and Crackdown. If you have a 360 Crackdown 2 is out next month and may be worth a shot.

Lol they say Agent is coming out on September 1st there. Somehow I doubt it considering all we've seen of it so far is the logo.

Mafia II should be good and Kane & Lynch 2 looks like it could be pretty decent.

I just did a quick google...could have picked any number of release date lists.

You'd be surprised how easy it was to google...:P

No mention of Agent on this one: http://ps3.gamespy.com/index/release.html

That's one of the most strained compliments I've ever heard :pac:

As bizarre as this sounds I'm sort of glad there aren't any 'wow' games coming out for a while. There were so many for the first few months of this year that my funds have been stretched to their limits, might trade in one or two and get RDR soon.

if the latest Splinter Cell couldn't lure me to another platform, nothing will. just will not succumb to the device that is 'platform exclusive', unless its on the one i already own so i miss out.. wanted to play left 4 dead as well

Lol, ah yeah it's a nice comprehensive list alright, just thought it was funny them listing Agent as coming out in less than 3 months :P

Lol, I'm wary of it, but I really like the style they're going for with it. The kinda 'found footage' look they're going for with lens flare and ditortion adn stuff like it was filmed on camcorders and phone cameras. I've only played a bit of the first one and found it a bit 'meh' but I'm cautiously optimistic about 2. It looks really good, but I'm not sure about how it'll play.

I was the same. What swung it for me was really sitting down and thinking about how many 360 exclusives I really wanted to play (Left 4 Dead was the main one), then when I realised there were quite a few I said I'd wait on the price and that if I saw a bundle with at least one of those exclusives with the Elite console for under €300 I'd go for it. Ended up picking up a console with Fable II and Halo 3 for around 280. Don't regret it at all. While I'm seriously underwhelmed by their upcoming games, two of my favourite games this year were 360 games. Mass Effect 2 and Alan Wake. Mass Effect 2 will prob be my game of the year. Splinter Cell is pretty damn good too. You'll prob get a really good deal on one of the older Elite models in the next few weeks with the new slim coming out on July 16. Or you could wait for the slim for €250 with its built in WiFi. I'll list some of the 360 exclusives I've really enjoyed over the last 9 months, might tempt ya in the end :P

    Left 4 Dead 1&2
    Fable II
    Mass Effect 1&2 (2 moreso)
    Dead Rising
    Crackdown
    Alan Wake
    Splinter Cell: Conviction
Halo ODST (didn't care for 3, but liked the style of ODST)
    Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
    Gears of War 2
    Forza 3

    XBLA games
Shadow Complex (one of my favourite games of last year)
    'Splosion Man
    Geometry Wars 2
Braid (well was exclusive at the time, should pick it up on PSN if you haven't already)
Castle Crashers (coming to PSN too anyway)

I'm probably forgetting a few there, but if there's 5 or 6 games there that you're interested in I'd say **** it and go for it. If not, you're not really missing out on too much, Mass Effect 2 aside.

If you're going to backtrack over older games, some games that I've picked up dirt cheap recently and found enjoyable enough, nothing fantastic but entertaining enough to be distracting are...

Bionic Commando - worth it for the piss-poor acting and laughably bad story, so bad it's good. Gameplay frustrating at times but other times it's great.
Red Faction Guerilla - Some people love it, I just like it :P
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - surprisingly decent slash-em up. Bit samey and uninspired, but straight-forward and enjoyable
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time - Is actually great, I loved it, just got it for really cheap, about 20 quid.
Spider-man: web of shadows - uninspired and a bit samey again, but enjoyable enough.

If I think of any more I'll suggest 'em. I think it's worth seriously considering a 360 though. The first 6 months of this year have been fantastic for gaming for me because I have both consoles. Just in terms of exclusives in Jan I had MAG and Mass Effect 2, Feb-Heavy Rain, March-God of War 3, April-Splinter Cell Conviction, May-Alan Wake. Have Crackdown 2 next month. So have had a major exclusive nearly every month this year so far. In a perfect world there'd just be one console, but if you're really passionate about gaming you owe it to yourself to have both, possibly 3, 'cause if I had a Wii this month I'd have Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I loved Alan Wake, it's pretty short, but I played through it straight away again and there's upcoming DLC. It's a pity you can't rent consoles out for a weekend like you could back in the day. Remember renting out a megadrive from xtravision a few times.
