I hope somebody can help me.

I lost me key fob (black thing that opens and locks the car) and unfortunately it was the only one the guy who sold to me had (not a motor dealer).

I was wondering how best to go about getting it sorted as now can't get into my car and have no idea how much it will cost to get it replaced.

    Thanks for any advice/help!

the dealer option is about 150e.
you need to ring with you vin number and order one, when it arrives you can collect but you must bring the VLC and ID to proove you own the car.

what version of BMW is it?

there might be other options with locksmiths etc but im not too clued up on that end of it.

if you join up to BMW-Drivers and order one through Ken (BMW Employee) you will get a good discount, but you need to be quick, i think he was taking orders today iirc - http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17310

    What model, year?

Worst case scenario, you'll have to purchase 2 keys (can't program 1 on it's own), pay to have the car recovered to a bmw garage and any associated labour charge.

It really depends on the model though, some keys come coded from BMW so you only have to stick it in the ignition and you're off.

In my BMW driving days, I remember being told about a locksmiths on Cavendish Row, (thats as you head down into Parnell Street/ O'Connell Street from Dorset Street) and apparently they cut BMW keys, though I dont know what sort you have. Just bring along any documentation you have that proves ownership. They may be called Fogartys, not sure but the golden pages should help. Maybe give them a call first.

Yes of course you can program one only. No need to pay for car recovery (Unless it is in a bad spot), you still do not have te key, so no point.
And as I far as I know, they will have to be coded anyway, either by the dealer's machine (Newer model) or in the car directly (Older models)

It should take 2 days top to get a new key, so just leave the car where it is, take the bus and wait for your key to come back.

There are 2 types of key you can get - a small (plastic:eek:) recovery key that will open locks - but has no central locking buttons for ~40 and the normal fob for about ~100. You can order a replacement key from the dealer with just your vin - you need to go in with licence and vlc and they will order a key - takes 1-2 working days.

You dont need the original - bwm will use the vin number of the car to cut and code the second key.
