    Lo all,
I have almost finished my single speed but I am tempted to change the front chainset to a single as opposed to the original double.

I was thinking also of upgrading the cup & axel bottom bracket to a sealed unit but as a newbie I am a bit stuck for knowledge.

    Two questions:
Q1: Is the possible to do this type of a change?

Q2: If it possible to do would the following type work providing its a square taper chainset I get? As far as I know is an english thread I need.

    Thanks in advance

yes you can use a UN54, UN26 110mm is just under 10euro, either that or 107mm UN54 would be best choice quality/value

what model is the frame? chances are its english threading which is 68mm.
cone&cup or sealed cartridge, it doesnt matter as long as its 68mm. for the price it makes sense to upgrade. this is the tool you will need to fit it:http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=14914

also the original double crankset should be fine, alot of single speed cranks are sold as single but are actually doubles so that you can adjust the chainline. a single speed chainring will have deeper teeth as its not meant for shifting so its best to buy one rather than use a 3/32 multispeed chainring even if your single speed freewheel or cog is 3/32.

    Thanks kumate_champ07

All that info is greatly appreciated.

The frame is an old Triumph 10spd road bike. Around Mid 80s vintage I think.
