Sony Trinitron CRT screen problem

This is a long shot I expect. I have a mid 90s Trinitron flat screen telly, its been a model of consistant quality up unitl the last week or so. The picture is started to deform, with the screen bending away from the frame (so variable black bars either side of screen), a tap of the casing tends to fix it for a short period then it gets worse and the set switches to stand by. The infra-red light flashes twice pauses and repeats. If the set is switched off for a while it comes on grand and then deforms and goes into stand by.

Anyone of the CRT old school ever have this and get it fixed?

Used to work on tv's and vcr's back in the good old days...,sounds like the problem gets worse when the set heats up...
Pity you are in Waherford, as I wouldn't mind a look and some soldering practice again!
Typicall problems were with dry-joints either around the line-output transformer or in the power supply circuit.Their reliability was legendary, as was their quality.
Try to get someone in the tv game to give it the once over and bring it back to life.

Cheers for the feedback, I bought a new tv but I'm handy with a soldiering iron. I may have a proper look when the world cup is over (no time for anything else right now!)
