Solicitors chasing someone who's not at the address!

My mother and father having constantly been getting toll bridge ( M50) letters saying they owe them money because a car that they dont own is has been registered to their address without their permission. My mother has called them more times to tell them that the owner of the car doesn't live there but to no avail, they just keep sending them and the fines just keep getting bigger and bigger.

She's called the Gaurds but they've said its a civil matter and even though they recognize that the car owner doesn't live there , they say there's nothing they can do.

Today the story took a nasty little twist. There's now solicitors letters coming to their house for this person. Now although I wouldn't care less , my parents are getting on a bit and this is worring for them. They contacted the solictor company via their 0818 number and the assistant said that there's nothing they can do as thats the only address they have for the car.

My question guys is what can they do to stop this. It seems nobody wants to listen and I really dont need my old man stressed out with this crap. He's 73 and spent 6 months of 2009 in hospital , the last thing we need is him getting sick again over some toolbox registering his car to their address. Help please.

Your parents should stop opening letters addressed to someone else. It is an offence to do so.

agree, just get them to leave any mail that was not intended for them outside the house for the postman to pick-up the next day

Ya just tell the postman this person doesnt live there and never has.
Letters will go back to solicitors and they can deal with it.

Then contact your own solicitor to cover yourself/parents.

Just simply write "Not at this address" and leave the mail out for the postman. Let the solicitors write off the bad debt. Dont open the letters and certainly dont be getting stressed over it.

Nothing to worry about at all

Easiest thing to do is write "not known at this address" and put them into a post box.

Surely it is an offence to pick a name from the phone book and register a car there?

It could be something as simple as a wrong house number.

There is a simple solution to this problem:
