    Hi,

My father (who's in his eighties) is looking to buy a small automatic car with parking sensors, good visability and is easy to get in and out of.

He's willing to buy a new car and has a trade in.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

The world's his oyster really, any small automatic should be available with parking sensors these days. I'd suggest taking him around a few dealerships to look at some options. Given that he most likely won't be driving hard, a lot of it will come down to his personal likes & dislikes.

Any car can be retro-fitted with parking sensors if they're not available as an option.

How small is small? The Ford Focus/C-Max Powershift might do, or the Golf DSG.

What about a volkswagon fox, lovely although possibly underpowered car!

True, but factory-fitted ones tend to be a lot nicer.

Actually my gran has a micra auto.. she finds it really easy to get in and out of.. its tall enough so you dont have to climb out.. she had hip and knee replacements so finds it works well..

Hers is '05 with no parking sensors but im sure newer ones have them.. or as suggested aftermarket ones should be cheap enough!

My parents just bought a Tiida and its very easy to get in and out of as there is no real lip/arch at the bottom of the door.
They are both arthritic and really noticed the difference.
Small enough car but a nice big boot and room inside.

Fiat Panda is a great car to get in and out of, but the one my Mother's looking at is the Peugeot 2007 - the one with the sliding doors. She reckons with her hips and back because the doors slide, it will make getting in and out of the car much easier when in a multistorey and parked close to other cars.

Parking sensors can be fitted all over the country by various installers - don't let those be the deal breaker. You can get things like that later on.

    Folks,

Thanks for all your replies. The car he has to trade in is a 91 so getting the Governmant Scrappage allowance would be good. I phoned a local Peugeot dealer and he said the 207 automatic does not qualify as it emissions are too great! The 107 automatic would be okay, does not come with parking sensors but as previous posters have noted these can be added, however there is a 4 or 5 month waiting list for 107s! I'll look into your other suggestions.

    Thanks again.

    Don't forget a Kia Picanto........

Comes with everything you want, is nice and small. Can be gotten with an auto, has nice big buttons inside and is very simply laid out. Cheap to run and repair

What about a Suzuki Swift? Good spec, economical and great visibility

My mam (aged 76) has an automatic Suzuki Swift, which she adores.
I don't think they come from the factory with parking sensors, but I though I'd throw it into the mix anyway.

The Kia Picanto has a ridiculous level of spec. I looked into one for my Mother a few years back - they've even got keyless entry if you get the right one. Whether or not all that stuff will be working in 5 years is debatable, but I've driven a few Kias, and they're actually not the worst.
