Anyone know where in Dublin I can buy similar?...

    199RLarge.jpg

I have to call to the shop to fit it so buying online is out of the question.

Basically I've a grade III tear in my ATFL (anterior talofibular ligament) and Syndesmosis, plus bruising of my talus dome.. Basically I'm out of action for the next few months

    Lads - DON'T TRAIN WITH BEGINNERS!. :p

Anyone know where I can pick one up?.

    Bad Buzz Makikomi

I haven seen anything like that around in ireland, and I have found the neoprene ones to be next to useless.

As a botch job I have in the past used boxing raps hook the thumb loop over the big toe and rap it up and tap
it of with surgical tape. I found that it gave much better support than either bandages or neoprene.

Hope this helps and good luck with the recovery.

I see Doug has found you the real deal.

I should probably worry that their wide selection of knee braces excited me :o

I got one in Elverys in town for the GAA, it was a few years ago mind you, but the proper one with the flexible steel inserts and all. Worked a treat.

Give one of the Elverys branches a call.

Can you train at all, or is that just to allow you to move around? I'm off the mats myself for a short while with tooth issues, which is driving me nuts, but I've no one to blame for it but myself. Also, I can still do any training that doesn't carry the risk of getting a belt in the face.

As a relative noob who still has the tendency to get carried away every now and then, I'm going to redouble by efforts to stop myself from trying to force throws where I haven't properly broken balance first. It only ever ends in disaster.

I can't train at all for a few months.

And most likely out of competition Judo for the rest of the year.

With the ATFL tear and the tears in the syndesmosis, plus damage to the talus done (thats like the ball of the ball/socket in my foot) & cartilage in that joint my foot is loose on the end of my leg :(

The damage at the syndesmosis also mean's that my tubula & tibia have separated & move about without support.

I'm tapped pretty stiff with Mueller tape, which is coming off on Friday for more physio - hence the need for a stiff brace.

Apparently the healing process would be prolonged in a cast.

Pulled / tore an abdominal muscle on my side last night. Didn't do a breakfall and landed on my own elbow.

My own fault, can't sneeze, cough, laugh or even turn around without getting a seriuos pain/spasm up my side.

Any tips for helping it mend? (Apart from taking it easy)

Edit: feel like a pussy talking about my sore side after reading makikomi's post ^

Just thought some of you might be interested in this..

The latest on the injury is a discharge from my physio and an appointment to se a surgeon as I've a Sinus Tarsi Tunnel Syndrome.

I've been on meds since june too.

Well I'm just back from getting treatment from an Osteopath, and for the first time since June I'm totally pain free!.. And limp free!.

I'm sitting here in absolute amazement, but he told me it may take a few more treatments. But damn this is unreal!.

Get well soon man. I have a weird clicking in my right leg when I walk or move a certain way. Hopefully it doesn't develop into anything serious.

I know how frustrating a spell out of training can be. Currently have ringworm and it's gotten pretty bad, can't wait to be over it and get back.

Would you believe, the first thing the Osteopath did this evening was check everything from my hips to my ankle and worked on the entire length of both legs to treat the ankle, and funnily enough I mentioned that I'd a click in the injured ankle from the initial injury and thats gone too!.. I'm seriously amazed.

However he did mention that some of it may come back tomorrow, but that in time he was confident we could put things right. And going on how I feel right now I'm pretty damned confident too!.

Oh Maki man, I can feel your pain brother!!! Went over on my ankle a number of times, but April 2 years ago while playing rugby (NOT training of course!!!) with one of my son's I jumped up to catch a ball and came down heavily into a pothole bout 6" deep and fuvked it up BIG time. Had physio, chiropractic and sports massage to no avail but finally found an excellant physio in Galway who diagnosed a partially torn talofibular ligament so it's full of scar tissue now but getting back to some decent enough state. Injuries are a bastard ESPECIALLY when there NOT training related.

Hope to feck things improve for ya:)

    Thanks Dave..

I tore the very same ligament, the ATFL.

I'm truely amazed at what happened with the osteopath. You know how troublsome it is to rehab that particular injury, well since June I haven't had one moment pain free. Couldn't drive any distance, couldn't walk a flight of stairs etc.. 'Nor could I touch the ATFL.

Well the last needle the guy put in he asked was it sore, I said no just tingling.. He told me to look down, and the needle was right through the ATFL and into the Sinus Tarsi Tunnel..

That was Thursday night, and I'm still pain free and running up and down the stairs, walking the dogs etc.. I keep expecting it to come back with a bang - so far so good!.

In fact, I continue to touch the spot to see if the pain is coming back!. Its silly, but I'm very impressed. He told me it may come back slightly, so I've to ring him during the week and let him know how it is.
