Cancelling Quinn Direct policy

Has anyone ever had any hassle cancelling a policy with QD? They have just increased my premium so much that I cannot afford it anymore. I will send them a letter telling them to shove it. Has anyone ever had any follow up after sending such a letter?

I presume you mean your not going to renew with them? Your not actually cancelling the policy?

Just be aware that if you cancel, your NCB goes abck to 0.

    Correct

I couldn't give a toss about that at the moment.

It is actually going to be cheaper for my wife to take out a new policy and stick me down as a named driver. I am doing feck all driving these days.

Do you have your statement of no claims? That's supposed to be sent out with your renewal notice I think.

If you have that, and don't have a rolling direct debit, I wouldn't waste my ink on them and just take out a cheaper policy elsewhere.

Sadly there is a rolling direct debit so I will have to cancel that in the bank.

The irony is that my wife can take out a policy (she has no ncb) with them and stick me down as a named driver for half of what they want to renew my policy.

What? Surely you can ask for your copy of an NCB and take it to another insurer? Is this true?

If you cancel a policy mid year you loose that year's NCB ( not all of your NCB gathered before the policys inception) but if the policy is due for renewal and your just not renewing then you would recieve the NCB for the entire year.

what? no it doesn't! If you are halfway through a policy, and cancel, you will lose the years NCB that you would have gained by finishing out that year, but you don't lose NCB for completed years of a policy (provided theres no claim of course)

I had the same issue in April, renewal came in at €200 more expensive than the previous year - I was shocked to say the least. Somehow that extra years NCB upped my premium? Hardly.

Went online to Quinns very own website and a brand new quote came in at €400 cheaper than renewal (€200 cheaper than previous year) with the very same information.

Added in a named driver of the female variety and the renewal price that originally came in the post was literally halved. Numerous phone calls to Quinn and for some reason they could not match the price I had been given yet they were all too happy for me to cancel my original policy and take out the new one online which is what I did. Worth looking into OP.

If its renewal just throw them a call and tell them you dont want to renew.. Like i did today!!!

Their prices are seriously un-competitive, i found..

    25, 2 yrs NCB, '99 318is

    Quinn €1360 third party

AXA €680 fully comp with windscreen and stepback..

Ive also cancelled with them a few years ago when i went off travelling.. charged me €50 for cancelling.. and lost the few months NCB.. was all good though!!

I'm assuming you're renewing, since you're talking about them increasing your premium, which they can't do mid policy.

Just call them and say you're not renewing. They'll probably ask you why, and if you say you're getting a better deal elsewhere, they might ask you what you were quoted. If you choose to tell them, they might try to match or undercut it (circumstanced depending - since they increased your premium, they might not do this with you).

That's what happened with me last year anyway. I still decided to switch to FBD, as I was impressed with their service regarding some claims we had to make on our house insurance.

You won't lose your NCB when switching. They should have sent your NCB cert with the renewal quote, which you can use when getting insurance from another provider.

    Ok.

I managed to get a much cheaper quote by going to their website. I dropped the open driving and protected ncb. I just stuck down the old folks as named drivers and the quote came in 400 cheaper than the renewal. Paid the deposit online and I received the new policy and cert today. I have now sent Quinn back their own ncb cert. I take it that will serve as notice of telling them to get bent on their original quote?

Amazing what can be saved if you are determined to look.

Myself personally, if I got a quote off my current insurer and then found a cheaper one somewhere else I wouldn't go back the original company. Why should I do all the leg work, get a better deal and still pay them several hundred Euro?

They should send me out their best price, not the price they think I'll pay

You will still need to contact Quinn and say you aren't renewing your old policy. Since you're on DD unless they hear otherwise they'll renew your policy, I'm sure it's buried somewhere in your policy documentation, and you'll be paying double.

If you'd rang up Quinn and dropped those items then your current policy would have dropped also.

Not by that much in my experience.

Once the OP cancels the DD they will not renew the original policy. Also when he sent back in the NCB you sign to say that you are not renewing the policy on the NCB cert. That is notice enough for them.
