I rang quinn in april to get a quote for my OH based on Cullen 5998 recommendation (thanks btw). We are currently paying 1600 for full cover with myself as a named driver. (my OH is 30, full licence, and full no claims bonus btw) they gave us a quote of 700 absoulutley delighted.

Rang them today as insurance is up next month they now say that they wont insure a GX only a GR (even though a GR doesnt have abs and airbags as standard)

    any ideas anyone

When did they give you the quote of €700?

If your still with them just tell them you've bought the FTO and require them to transfer the policy

With ARB at the moment. I got the quote in April so it doesnt stand now. Have rang a couple of other places and they just wont insure the FTO.

ARB will have to allow you to move your policy onto the FTO.

Contact the iff if you need advise - http://www.iif.ie/

Can they not just come up with a crazy quote which there is no way you will take?

I had the same problem with my Integra last year. Try Setanta Insurance. Youll need to go thru a broker; I went thru McCormack Hooper Dolan in Clane.

Look up first ireland. They will sell you a chartis (i think) policy. They will beat 700 too Id say.

So Setanta Insurance (through Hallahan Fitzpatrick brokers) got back to me today with 625, :D
    Thanks djimi ;)
Just got our re-newal quote from ARB 1,331 my eye !!!!

No worries mate, glad to help!

I dont know what the deal with Setanta Insurance is, but I am so glad that they are around! I havent gotten my renewal officially for this year yet but from speaking with my broker it looks like its going to be a bit cheaper than last year, which from ringing around is still roughly half the price of the next best quote I can get.

They can, but they generally dont.

I'm with Setanta as well and they halved most of the quotes I was getting at the time.

McCormack...no luck. Just rang to get a quote on my FTO GPX, and no go. I'm 22 with 3 years NCB and full licence...the only realistic quote I've gotten is from Quinn for 1500 (which isnt actually that bad).

Considering the car and your age Id say €1500 is excellent tbf. I was paying more that on a 1.4l Civic saloon when I was 22.

im pretty happy with that. I'm gonna wait until I get the logbook to it and go in and see if i can force FBD to insure me on it. I'm with FBD at the moment

If youre already with FBD then rumour has it that they are obliged to transfer your policy over to the new car. That is not to say of course that they wont try and charge you some stupid amount of money to cover the difference in the policy.

I actually rang FBD about insuring my Type R Integra last night (Im 27, full license for 9 years, 3 years NCB) and after going to the underwriters I was told that they wouldnt insure my car.

you're not an existing customer with FBD though no?

Does anyone know whether insurance companies HAVE to transfer to your new car if you have an existing policy with them?

No Im currently with Setanta. I didnt really expect FBD to quote me; they didnt last year, so I was just chancing my arm really.

As far as I know (and this is based purely on what I have heard so it could be complete rubbish) they have to transfer your policy to any new car for the remainder of the policy, and once your renewal is up they are not obliged to renew with you. I have no idea how true that is (logic would say its not true as they would have cars that they wont quote on no matter what), and even if it is true then they could well turn around and say they will transfer your policy but charge you €10k for the difference in the two cars.

I was with Axa when I got my Integra, and I asked them were they obliged to transfer my policy and they said several times that they are not. I didnt persue it as I didnt want to buy the car only to find out that they wouldnt renew 6 months later, so I didnt find out if they were bluffing in the hope that I would go away!

If you currently have a policy with a company and ask to transfer your policy over to a car you have just bought they must offer you a quote to change over.

Come renewal time they are obliged to offer you a reasonable quote to continue the policy.

Are you sure about the bolded part? A friend of mine bought a GT-Four Celica a couple of years ago, and after pressing the insurance company she was told that they would reluctantly transfer her policy to the new car for the remainder of the year but that they would under no circumstances renew her policy the next year on the car.

Im not doubting you btw; it would be nice to have clarification one way or the other!

I was always of the opinion that they have to renew once you have a policy (unless convictions give them a reason not to) but her company (I cant remember who it was) were adamant that they wouldnt.

Yes, When I bought my ITR I was talking to the IIF with regards to insurance and they confirmed this, unless its changed in the last 2 years.
