    Hi All,

Im travelling next week by Ferry and bringing my fathers car to France. Horrible long story so I wont go into it.

Im insured on it and have the Insurance document to prove it but people are saying I need to bring proof of the cars registration.

    Like what?

When I drive in France i take everything related to my car. I've heard they can be a wee bit funny at times but i don't think it is compulsory.

Don't forget you will need a reflective jacket and a triangle.

Check out www.theaa.com they have advice for each country.

Have 2 jackets, first aid kit, torch, triangle, spare bulb kit, beam convertors and even a 3rd number plate to hang off the bike rack.

I was in France 2 weeks ago and was asked for my car registration documents by a policeman. I had them so I don't know what he would have said if I hadn't.

As others have said, it is now compulsory to have hi viz jackets, warning triangle, spare bulbs etc.

The odd thing is that they say that headlamp deflectors are compuslory but you rarely see Irish or UK cars using them. I bring them but don't bother using them as I don't usually drive at night there.

That's the reason we are driving so we CAN bring the kitchen sink. Also I grew up on these holidays so Im going to try to introduce the missus to it.

She can have "her" holiday next year. This year, at least, there will be no arguments about bringing too many jeans, shoes, too many toileterries etc.
