I found the premier inn city centre excellent. Cheap, spotless clean, comfy beds, excellent security. Not far of a walk from the centre (hence the name!!!)

I stayed in the Holiday Inn (I think) on Lime Street.

Was very central and did the job nicely.

The nautical style hotel is called The Liner, it's behind Lime Street railway station. I would recommend it too.

    I recently stayed in http://www.signatureliving.co.uk/
in Liverpool and I can honestly say I will never stay anywhere else when visiting Liverpool. We stayed on a Thursday and a 6 bed apartment cost us 15 pounds each. The apartments were gorgeous and spotless clean. The number 500 bus from the airport cost us 2.70 and left us a 2 minute walk from the apartments. The staff were friendly and helpful from booking to checking out. There was bread , milk , butter , tea , coffee and sugar provided. Our room had a jacuzzi and shower and another room we booked had a PS3 , they all had tv's and dvd players. Our only regret was not staying longer than one night. I'd definitely reccommend staying here to anyone visiting Liverpool.

depends on price you want to pay. the Marriott in the city centre is good, but a bit more expensive than a few others that have been mentioned already, which are all decent places as well and quite central. stay away from the Adelphi, it really has gone to the dogs in recent years.
