Guys, I need a bit of feedback on how long a battery driven trolley lasts. I don't mean the battery life, I mean the trolley itself. Does it fall to pieces or need repairs after 3 years, 5, 7...?

If you're replying, could you also let me know what kind of trolley you have.

    Many thanks
    K

You cant beat the GOLF GLIDER but a bit on the expensive side. I've mine for almost 6 years and is as good as new. Surprisingly, the battery has lasted just as long. You can now buy the glider for about 440Es. You are paying for durability!

I have my Powakaddy for 5 years now I think. Replaced the battery in March and no trouble with it. I see the newer ones are lighter and take the lithium batteries which is great as mine is pretty heavy

same as most things it depends on how often its used and how its cared for too

I have a powakaddy freeway about 7 years onto 3rd battery (3year life span with lots of use)had clutches replaced on both sides twice, handle broke twice middle part of frame snapped when some tool in a buggy reversed into it......as you can see not well cared for:o,but very well used

by all accounts and posted here previously golf glider is the way to go,

buy from a brand name thats established as parts are easily got fior repairs stay away from any new thing made in china as parts etc. are impossible to get,

    Kevin,

    I have a Powakaddy, 8 years now.
It is a bit like Triggers brush in "Only Fools And Horses" 13 handles and 42 heads!!!!!!!!!!!!! and still going strong.

Main Control Box replaced (after 10 months)
    On its 3rd handle
    New set of clutches
    requires a new wheel.
Has had most of the rivets replaced as they have broken.
Has been well cared for and is has been used at least once a week from new.
    On its 3rd Battery.

Golf Glider seems to be the way to go. I purchased one from their shop in Churchtown and he was most helpful. Is a much simpler design,so less parts to break. The fact that most of the rental trolleys around Ireland seem to be gliders seems to point to their reliability.

I will put in a good word for the cheaper models. I have a MOCAD 1 for about 7 years. On its third battery. Only other problem was the axle broke a few weeks ago, but a replacement from Cork cost less than €30. Definitely has been a excellent machine for the money.

    Powakaddy - approx 5 years

2 clutches replaced - down to good husbands oiling them - DON'T DO IT!
    Right wheel replaced
Right wheel about to be replaced again!

On 3rd battery, always get 36 hole battery

Bought a Golf Motion trolley about 2 years ago. After about a year the battery had wore down so much that i would barely get 9 holes out of it and then the pin that turns the axle snapped so that the motor was running fine but the wheels wouldn't turn.
It's still in the shed but i couldn't be bothered getting it fixed. It was my first electric trolley and probably my last. I've bought a Powakaddy push trolley since and i'm much happier with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone, and apologies to Trekker - we can't all be as butch as you!

I've been asked to review a Go-Kart so wanted to find out how long the older equipment lasts, as the Go-Kart is mostly plastic (reinforced thermoplastic polymers, according to the blurb). It varies massively evidently.

    Has anyone tried one?

I presume you'd be taking it for a lenghty trial period before you review it Kevin, is that right?.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it, as I'm in the market for a electric trolley myself and have heard only good things about motocaddy and have heard numerous bad reports about Powacaddy (both from reliable sources btw).

    Ya I bought a Go-kart about 3 months ago.
Been used every week since and I like it a lot.
Seems sturdy and folds away in no time.
Customer service is top notch as well.
Hopefully it will stand the test of time

Golf Glider for the last 6 years....Just replaced battery so reckon I did well......only other prob was the handle cracked after 5 years use.........( replaced wheel this week ...but not the trolleys fault lol ) :)

    Very reliable machine overall.

I'm finally realizing that I'm not as young as I used to be, so a trolley might be on the cards sooner rather than later. I'll be interested in your review.
