I'm cleaning out my wardrobe and have some pretty good clothes that I don't wear and was wondering if Ebay is a good place to try to sell them? It may be a stupid question but do people buy second hand clothes off the internet? I normally would give them to a charity shop but cash is fairly tight at the minute :o

You could also try putting them on Adverts.ie.

Yes ebay is really good for selling clothes especially if its something with a brand on it like say Oasis or Topshop as people put those into the search terms.

I've been selling clothes on ebay for a couple of years now and really recommend it! Make sure you have a good description, feedback and good quality pictures are very important! Also its better if your clothes are vintage or from a well known high street shop.

Heres an article I wrote for the student paper on it, it might help!

Postage can make items expensive. Make sure you check how much the items will cost to send before listing.

Good pictures are a must, preferably on someone, at different angles etc. Highlight brand names etc. Also have a picture of any flaws etc and explain or you could get bad feedback.

I would sell alot of of stuff on ebay. You can be lucky and unlucky with clothes to be honest. Tops and shirts with good brand names would sell alright but the likes of jeans and suits are a hard one to sell as people have different leg size and don't tend to buy them unless they are new. If you are not too bothered about how much they sell for put them in at €1.49, i know its a small price but you will draw in alot more watchers on the clothes and if you get 2 people to bid then you are going to get a good price. If they don't sell at that price you can either relist them (which you don't get a listing charge at €1.49) or just give them to the charity shop.

Another option is going to a carboot to sell them. Clothes are a big seller there and its a great day out (if the weather is good) It would cost you between €8 and €10 to sell at them and you will be guaranteed to make that back with alot more. You can also bring other stuff to get rid of. You will be amazed what people buy at them and there is some great characters at them.

I go through phases of buying quite a bit of stuff on Ebay and have got some gorgeous things. I second what others have said about having a few photos of each item and definitely name the brand- when I'm browsing I often just search for "topshop size 10", for example...not least because I have a fairly good idea of what size I take in the main high street shops so am more confident about judging if the item will be flattering on me.

Do people ever not get paid for the clothes? i just know since i bought alot of fake Benefit on ebay I got my money back from ebay no problem.

I would be worried selling something genuine on ebay and then the person complaining and getting their money back? In which case I would have posted something away and not got paid?? This is the only thing which would stop me selling clothes on ebay. Has it happened to anyone?

I've honestly never had a problem - I once had to refund 50% of an item value as there was a mark I didn't see. You can set buyer requirements to stop people with bad feedback from bidding, or request new sellers to contact you first and you could also opt to post only within the uk or europe.
I've heard of people having trouble but it usually gets resolved in the end, I wouldn't let it deter you.

I buy off ebay a lot but unless I had previously tried something on in a shop I wouldn't buy clothes unless there were pictures of the item on a person or at least a manneqin. Definately make sure there's lots of light and do give a face on shot, when people only give photos with the model standing at an angle I always suspect they are trying to hide a crappy or unflattering cut. I like the carboot sale idea, gonna do that myself with my stuff now!
