re iphone 4 and microsims etc

someone knows something, apple said Ireland will have the phone form 24 july or something, why the secrecy, its a big up yours to the consumer, I dont buy for a second they dont have any info to share
American companies and o2 uk were rushing out with info the next day after the keynote to keep customers, offerings of current contract holder's line rental amnesties, buy out remainder of your contract for 20$ to keep you with them etc

nothing from our lot, fed sh1t and kept in the dark
    typical paddy land bs

I think you're being a bit paranoid tbh. Apple and O2 are two massive companies and things don't just happen in an instant. The reason O2 uk have their info out is because they are getting the iPhone 4 in the first batch release from apple. Ireland aren't getting it until July. We also get the iPad around the same time so why confuse the issue 7 weeks ahead of the time.

There'll also be a certain amount of seeing who jumps first between VF and O2 presuming that O2 don't have an exclusivity deal this time around.

And finally, why shouldn't they try to sell as many full price 3gs's as they can. Wouldn't you try to sell as much old stock before announcing an all new signing and dancing version? Common business sense.

Patience man, have some patience. It's only a phone and they'll be like hens teeth for the first few months anyway.

I was adamantly told by O2 customer care that they wouldnt have the iphone 4 until late this year and not in July. They even pushed me to go onto another contract for 18mths and off my iphone one.

I can imagine they're doing that to shift a few more 3gs units. In the apple keynote, Ireland was mentioned for July release so I can't imagine why O2 would let the opportunity pass. They told me the same about the iPhone but I don't believe it. To be fair to the customer agent, it might be the official line at the moment and they themselves don't know.

Maybe it is available in July exclusive from the apple online store first? Seen as today they started selling the iPhone for the first time on the Irish apple store., and unlocked too

O2 told me in January that they expected a new iPhone in the summer. I got it in writing that if I renewed my contract (to include 100mins and 150texts for the same price) that my upgrade would stay on so that I could upgrade to the new iPhone in the summer.

They Just want there Commission now. They don't care about you or what phone they give you, or how happy you are as a customer.

Go back and take him up on his offer. But as for it in writing as to when the new iPhone is out. See what they do then:D

Not saying that this is the case for this mobile operator but I would imagine that most operators will want to shift any stock of existing models of phones. If the phone is not out for a couple of months and where for the average person it is not that different to the existing model all they are doing is managing their sales flow. This is also a benefit to the customer as said by OCD. In reality there is only a small percentage of iPhone users who are going to want to jump immediately onto the new model. The majority of people only change voluntarily handsets when they got an upgrade.

Heard the same thing from a store manager. Mid to late September.

Definitely the WWDC said July for Ireland. From the horse's mouth. That does not mean that O2 will have it immediately, of course. Interesting. Is there a way to get them to officially comment? Is there a rep on boards?

It may be released in July in Ireland, but that's not to say O2 will have it. They'd be silly not to, as haven't 3 confirmed they will have it in July? I'm sure Vodafone will make sure they have it too.

Well in fairness, the front line staff are generally the last to know about these things for good reason. They generally will let it slip and if the higher management want to keep it a secret, well then they will not tell anyone what is happening until it is just about to happen.

Remember you cant get blood from a stone and you cant get the answer to a question from someone who does not know the answer.

Think you are being a bit heavy handed OP tbh.

o2 will let customers know when they are good and ready and until then, unless you know someone high up, it will be kept a secret/
