"Spoiler" in Title and Spoiler Tags

I am unsure if this is the right place because this thread could apply to anywhere really; literature, films and this section, but I am focusing on the TV forum moreso.

If you have the word "Spoiler" added in the title, is there a need to use spoiler tags when revealing something?

Have seen numerous posts with users getting annoyed over this.

No,if it says "Spoilers" in the thread title then you should expect to see spoilers of what ever episode has aired most recently. Most threads will have either US/UK or IRL in the title so you know what pace people are discussing it at. If you are watching on Irish tv then don't venture into a US discussion thread.

It would be very annoying to be discussing a show in a thread with spoiler tags in every post,so it works much better to have it in the title and people view at their own risk.

I agree totally. And if you are using mobile boards, then the spoiler tags do not work as there is no way of highlighting them like you can on a computer, so you are unable to see what is being said.

if you just have spoiler in the first post, maybe in a episode thread (in the show's forum), then it's okay, but if it says it in the title, you should have enough cop on not to go near the thread if you haven't seen it.
i'm staying away from the true blood thread cos it says spoilers and NOTHING will spoil it for me, NOTHING :D

I go with the better safe than sorry myself tbh, I don't see how it's much hassle to highlight some text compared to the misery of a spoiler for someone, even if it is their own fault.
I'd be happy with week or month bans for spoilers in non-spoilers-titled threads.

It's incredibly annoying and harder to read in general, because of the colours... If it says spoiler in the title and you go in that thread, its your own fault if you get spoiled...

Also, as said above, it's also REALLY annoying reading it on Phone in m.boards because I can't see spoilered text then. Spoiler is clearly in the title, if people spoiler themselves after that then tough tomatoes IMO.

I think this is an important point to note though: I totally agree with the idea that "Spoilers" in the title should mean that spoilers do not need to be used in the thread for discussing anything that happened up to the latest aired episode (and that's what I do with any threads I start as well).

However, even in such a thread - anything discussing facts about a future episode (e.g something from a promo) should be spoiler tagged or better yet, not mentioned at all. Not everyone likes to watch the promos for next week and some networks tend to spoil too much in their promos, so it can be extremely annoying to avoid the promo and then someone posts "oh ok, character x survives cause he/she is in next week's episode"...

    Agree totally.

Any posts regarding future episodes should be spoilered.

Spoiler tags should only be used in a thread marked spoilers if information about a future episode is revealed.
