There was an article in todays Cork Examiner about the HSE not advertising jobs, instead they employed staff relatives.

This is madness I thought all jobs had to be advertised, what chance has unempolyed people if this is happening:confused:

THe HSE is a big ugly monster of an organisation...
It's essentially a collection of different self-centered organisations all pulling in opposite directions. Each top level manager wanting their own way like spoiled children..
This always went on to an extent but I suppose it's a sorer point now with so many looking for jobs..

Harney doesn't run the HSE by the way, Professor Drumm did (and now the ex-eircom guy is in charge). And I genuinely don't know how much anyone can realistically do with that organisation without a massive amount of cash to offer redundancy to all the administrative (non-front line) staff.

Nothing new there.......the HSE are not the only ones guilty of hiring family members without advertising.....So be nice to your relatives guys.....especally the ones with the good jobs!!!!!! But may I add that this practice is all wrong!!!!

It's simple. If you do ANYTHING in a Government position somebody WILL find out about it.

We all know Nepotism happens but you would have to be some moron to think that in these times nobody will be aggreived by it.

Completed agree with everything being said here.

Know of someone who recently got a full time, pernament job with the HSE. The HSE advertised it internally, got people to go through the whole assessment process etc, getting people to waste their time and money, and all they while they had already decided to give the position to a sibling of an employee. This person went along to the assessment, which was INTERNAL recruitment only, and low and behold they get the job. Its an absolute disgrace of an organisation, it sickens me to think of all the well qualified people out there who would have been perfect for the job, and they gave it to someone with little to no experiene because of who they knew. I know it goes on all the time, but still sickens me!

I think this is disgraceful. I know alot of people who work for the HSE and none of the jobs that they got were advertised externally. One girl got a job in a kitchen in a hospital, the job wasn't advertised but her friend worked there, she then got another friend a Job there which wasn't advertised. She earns €16 an hour and 30 days holidays, she also has been sent on cookery training courses which are paid for and she gets travel expenses to get to the course. She gets double time for Sundays.
If these jobs had been advertised, a qualified chief could be hired with experience which would cut down costs of training.

Also know a community welfare officer who got a job who had no experience.

I think this article should be exposed more by the media and an independant interview board should be set up when the embargo is lifted
