Volvo s40 - quick question re. Bluetooth adapter leads

I have a 2000 Volvo S40. Went to get a handsfree kit, and was asked if I had the old or new 2000 model version. Looking on line, it appears that there are a 1999/2000 model, and a 2000-2004 model. Depending on which it is requires a different lead. Anyone know how I can tell the difference?

I'd imagine the VIN# will tell you, if you do a little googling.
