oil spills in the oven heaters

Yesterday I was heating some olive oil in a pyrex to make some nice roasted potatoes that were boiling but unfortunately got distracted with a neighbour who knocked on my door and when I came back, I could only see spills of olive oil and smoke coming out of it. I managed to open the door and turn off the oven without getting hurt and the oven after a few hours appeared to be working, however, when I turn it on, there is this intensive smell of CO2 and as a result lots of smoke shortly after. Anyone's got an idea how I can clean it up and whether this may mean something is damaged or whether it be too risky to cook again in the oven?

I'm wondering what I should no, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. the quickest, the better, as I'm starting to starve ;-)

best thing is to burn it off.open all the windows and stick the oven on for an hour with nothing in it.it will be smokey but will work.there is no fear of it going up in flames
