   ???

What an annoying developement. Hopped into my car to grab my phone from the glovebox & i bumped my head off the rear view mirror. Hard but not an extreme collision. Also heard a mystery pop/slap sound as it happened.

Came back to the car to find great big fcukin crack lines spouting from were the RV mirror meets the windscreen?????????? Yup its knackered....from banging my nut off the RV mirror, never heard of that before!

Well whats it going to cost to get it sorted? Anyone know? Its a 2000 corolla.

Its fairly noticeable so its a matter of time till the guards stop me.

    Don't need this sh!t now.

Ya must have a fairly hard head! :p

Most policies have windscreen cover these days which doesn't affect your NCB - have you checked?

We've written about the dangers of poorly fitted windscreens in the past on the blog at http://www.motorcheck.ie/blog/autoglass-irish-finals-take-place-today/. Did you have yours recently replaced? Consider yourself lucky that you found it now as opposed to relying on it with your airbag later.

Arent you in cork. Go to mallow windscreens. They do a city service also. Very reliable and proffessional.

I swear to ya folks it wasn't a hard bump, im baffled & suspicious.

Ive just noticed theres a sticker on the top right hand corner of the screen. Its a windscreen replacement statement. Its not the original windscreen???

I only have the car a month & a half so i have a feeling someones done a crap replacement job here.

My insurance policy is 3rd party, fire & theft so im not sure if im covered.

Whats the ballpark amount for a new windscreen???:mad::mad:

Depends on the car but you should be able to have it done through your insurance FOC. Shouldn't cost more than two hundred euro though.

Worth your while chancing your arm with the company that fitted it, especially if it's a relatively recent job.

Windscreens have similar properties to concrete.

WTF do I hear you say?

Concrete has great compression resistance and poor torsion (pulling) resistance.

Windscreens are concave in shape, ie bubbles out a little, when you hit it from the outside you are forcing the windscreen to compress against the car's pillars/roof as the pressure is distributed outwards.

When you hit it from the inside, they crack VERY easily, as the impact creates a torsion effect pulling FROM the pillars/roof and all the pressure has to go somewhere which is outside and 'crack'

    ;)

Is your phone ok? If so, then you should change your username to windscreencrusher :p

I work in glass and glazing. We have an old saying the trade.

    It goes, ahem:
    Glass breaks.

    Hope that helps
