So I hear Li-Pio batteries are the way to go. Im using a VFC AK74 and wondering if that can use a Li-Po 9.6v battery?

What changes would a Li-Po give over my current standard 9.6v?

li-po 9.6V are not produced on the asg market .there are only 7.4 V and 11.1V for asg. Main advantage is the size (smaller than the normal battery). 7.4 li-po is comparable to the 9.6 ordinary battery. You'll notice better ROF when you connect li-po

My fear is using a too powerful li-po. Im using a VFC AK74 - It can handle a LiPo but if I put in an 11.1v will it just screw it up?

Why would you want to? It probably will screw it up in a little while, stick in a 7.4V 25C lipo.

More than likely yeh, if the only reason your switching to a lipo is for more rof then i wouldnt bother. For your gun to be able to handle a 11.1 youd need some upgrades but why not just stick with your 9.6 and spend your money on upgrades for accuracy, tightbore, guarder hop up etc.
Id well rather accuracy over rof any day. :)

11.1 may be too much , at best will break the piston

Sound. See, I have no idea whats in the AEG or what anything in it is used for. People throw around shim this and bearing this and I have no idea what anything is used for. Is there a website where I can find out what all these things are/do?

This is a very good place to start if you want to learn about your airsoft guns gearbox.

Li-Po's are good as they're smaller, can give higher RoF (as long as it has a good C rating), charge faster and you will get more shots out of a Li-Po then you would of a a similar rated Ni-MH battery.

I've highlighted the bits that are important here, just for clarity. The ASG 7.4v lipos you'll most likely find stocked in shops have a poor C rating (that means 'current'; or the amount of juice the battery can pump out at any given moment in time), circa 15C and you'll most likely find the battery 'feels' like it's giving worse performance than if you used a standard 8.4v NiMH battery.

Anything with 20C+ should see you right; and there are so many better battery products available than ASG (who are not battery specialists).

I did some googling around. Will a 7.4v Lipo eventually destroy the internals of a VFC aeg? I came across about 50/50 over a number of sites. Anyone with some Lipo exeprience clarify this?

Well yeah.....But so will your 8.4/9.6 Ni-MH battery, they'll just do it at a slower rate....Parts wear out, there's not much you can really do about that. (Of course you can keep them oiled, etc. to slow down the wear and tear, but you'll never stop it).

Contrary to popular belief plugging a Li-Po battery into your gun won't result in a 50/50 chance of your gearbox exploding as soon as you touch the trigger ;). Every gearbox can take a Li-Po its just some will last longer then others :p.

VFC are very well built and would be able to handle a 7.4v Li-Po fine. But bear in mind it will wear your gearbox out faster. But that's the downside to a higher RoF. So you have to decide if you want a higher rate of fire or your parts to last a longer.
