What are you expecting in Art History and Appreciation on Thursday?
    Newgrange? Art Galleries?

Do you expect a twist to be added to these well worn topics?

What European section do you intend to study in these final days?

Or are you thinking fe*k it, its only 37.5%!?

Gallery question always comes up without fail so that's a definite.
I'm hoping stone comes up with nothing tacked onto it - i really hate when they do that!
and I'm doing impressionism and renaissance and praying i'll be okay! I got the highest in my class for the mocks so I'm hoping that'll stay the same ;)

I'm covering Romanesque for the European, which I'm a bit nervous about -it's due up going by the Gothic-Gothic-Romanesque pattern that's been going for the past few years, and my teacher clearly thinks it's a dead cert since she never covered another section with us. I'm worried that they'll change the pattern, since they seem to be trying to prevent people from predicting the papers this year.

Exact same situation, I hope to god that romanesque come up :o

For european section I'm planning on studying/cramming impressionism and Romanesque. Should be enough! Not too sure about the gallery question, my art teacher never taught us how to answer it so dont know whether to answer it or not on the day.

    Did you visit a gallery?
Basically you need to just be able to describe the gallery
    - lighting
    - how the exhibition is laid out in the room, what colours the walls are, how does this effect the painting, the framing, what information was available, how everything is displayed etc.
Then 2/3 pieces of work as you'd usually do any painting question

Same situation here, I think the patterns will remain the same but the questions will be more difficult/awkward. Did anyone else get that horrible Newgrange question for the mocks that went through 3 ages of stone-masonry? Thats the kind of thing i wouldn't be surprised to see. I think with how people study art they wouldn't dare keep certain questions off the paper but they might add twists to prevent too high a standard.

I think that's exactly what they do - they tack on a little sting in the tail. Like 'how would exhibit these works in a museum yourself' kind of thing came up at some point ( was that the mocks?)

No, we haven't. She only gave us this newspaper supplement from the independent on the national gallery Dublin.
It seems like a nice question though but I'd say I'll avoid it since I don't exactly know how the room is laid out and stuff.
Thanks for the info though. :)

Never know quite what to say for things like that, I go a little mad.. I'd probably answer along the lines of "In an empty terminal2, suspended from the ceiling illuminated by strobe lights with mooding created by "alleluia" Played from an unquantifiable amount of subwoofers.."

Yeah that would be me alright..

And validusername, room plans and detailed information should be on the galleries website, I'm doing the Tate modern in London simply because it has such a good website to hijack information off.

does anyone have any idea about what comes up in the appreciation question? was looking through exam papers and there was a question about dreamworks films like shrek.. do people study films or what?
have no clue what to do for this question, is it basically just a guess apart from the galley question?

Sculpture and product design tend to be big features, with regards to films I think that question was on the animation? But if you did a film for Lit Genre in English you should have a decent understanding of camera angles, lighting, music etc. should the topic arise.
Its a big BS question to be honest, well, at least in my opinion. There always seems to be a question that common sense can answer.

New Grange, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Beacon, Renoir, Da Vinci, for moi. Also have an answer prepared on some silly 'cartoon' movie I like which is really trippy, and would be easy to write about. Also must brush up on my advertising jargon.

If the actual paper is anything like the pres', I'll be delighted.

I did no study for the mocks cus I was finishing my portfolio for art college.
but I didn't do too bad in art history, 76% (art history on its own 56%)

I was actually able to talk about what I knew and liked
eg, Edward Munch and Andy Warhol
a crap newgrange essay (15 marks) and
the design question you know the coca cola and ribena one.

The design was my best marks, got 41/50

I'm going to study Newgrange today, some romanesque and a few artists.
also the gallery question. If the design question is good in the exam I might do it instead of gallery question

well considering this was such a major year for 3d id say a question on avatar or any 3d film you have seen could come up like shrek and LOTR did. just learn the tecnique to 3d filming editing bla bla .. not that hard to learn really! :)

With all the other exams i neglected art history.

Does anybody know what i could add last minute to what i know, or do you think id be okay with the following.

Irish - Newgrange, Casino, georgian period in general. Manuscripts
    (Durrow + Cattach)

European - Impressionism ( Degas + Monet ) , Romanesque (Autun), Medieval (Giotto)

Appreciation - Gallery Visit (IMMA) .... And a bit about product design.

    Thanks,

    Oh my goddddd!!

I just looked at this years mock exam paper and the Newgrange question and "painting depicting water" question came up! Is there a chance it'll come up in the real thing?

Our teacher was crap at Art History, he didn't do much with us at all! :( He never taught us how to structure an essay or anything.

I was planning on studying high crosses and Newgrange for Irish, Goya and Impressionism for European, and I was going to do either the gallery or the film question for appreciation (we briefly studied Tim Burton's AIW and Avatar for this).

Does anyone know how to elaborate on points, please? :( I'm rubbish at Art History and I always end up filling the pages with waffle because I haven't got anything else to talk about...
