I bought a car from Ollie once and it all worked out fine, I was quite happy.

Knowing the market he is in, I can tell you that I wouldn't buy a car from him and automatically assume it must be a minter and I will be able to make him stand over any issues. Having said that, it's no different from anyone else selling not-so-new used cars. I would ALWAYS use my God given common sense and get it checked over buy and approporiate person.

More importantly, what kind of car is it??

Every car I ever looked at there had something wrong with it and was being sold that way. A friend of mine bought a Golf from him and had endless trouble with it and when she went back with it he pretty much told her where to go. If you are buying OP get the AA or a motor assessor to look at it for you and certainly don't take his word for it or any warranty he might be offering with it for your own sake.

I don't know him or his garage but I would not use a mechanic located near him. I know enough people in the motor trade to know that two guys in the trade near each other are unlikely to be in a position to be "unbiased". But that us just my opinion. You are better off bringing your own mechanic along to examine the car. Although I have just recommened it & it has been recommended on here thousands if times it just hit me now: who are all these mechanics that have time to go vet cars???
Most I know work long hours in their garage & probably wouldn't have time for this sort of thing!

Any Indy mechanic with regular customers will look at a car for one of their 'regulars' for a small fee. That's a good thing for both parties as a) they're not going to recommend a lemon as you'll be back to them fairly sharpish if they did and the **** hits the fan and b) when the car does need regular maintenance you'll be sure to bring it to them for same. Plus they get paid for their time so why not?

The reason most mechanics don't like to check out cars for people is that if there's a problem with the car that the mechanic didn't spot, technically the mechanic can be sued by the person who bought the car, you're better off with the AA/ motor assessor option and you get a better inspection to be honest.

    At what cost?

Depends on how well you know yor local mechanic I suppose...........

Bring it down to Midleton fast fit in the Knockgriffin industrial estate. I would almost certain they won't be in cahoots. Even if they were, they couldn't not tell you if it had problems.

A Micra though?? The only time I condone buying these if if you will NEVER leave the city in it. It's a city car after all and isn't competent enough on dangerous open roads with lunatic/ oblivious drivers. I don't hate them but in fairness, everyone in this country, IMO, needs a good all-rounder at least and this can't be described as such.

I believe he has a good reputation, My father , brothers and some of my cousins have all bought used cars from him without any problem.

Contact the AA directly and they'll help you out or look up motor assessors in the golden pages. Call me skeptical if you like but i'd be wary of people coming on with only one or two posts recommending anything or anyone to be quite honest.

Do not buy from there as he just sold me a faulty car and to do so, he disconnected the dashboard light indicating such fault. He claims the previous owner did it and he did not know... Well, I don't believe it. Now, within the warranty, he is refusing to give me back my money, he keeps fixing the car... this is the 4th time.
    Avoid that so called dealer!

Ami, for future reference and to make it easier on yourself, you don't need to quote a post and type "thanks" under it.

At the bottom of every post another user makes, you will see a button with a "thumbs up" symbol on it. This is used to thank people and so the forum doesn't get too cluttered up :D

Bought a car from him before. Had problems with it and I have to say his post-sale customer service attitude wasn't great.
