Not sure if in right section, but need something to occupy my time whilst looking for work, or waiting on course placments, even if it mean working unpaid for a few hours a week.

If i was doing vounteer work whilst waiting on something suitable, even though unpaid, do i still need to advise my local social welfare, and how is this viewed by them. Obvioulsy the state wants me to find paid work or improve my chances of finding paid work by doing a course or gainng a qualifcation, which is what i want to do my self. But is doing unpaid work in the mean accepted by them, considering they could argue that this time could be spent looking for work as well.
