Cycling offroad in Kildare

I don't want to say mountanbiking because most of Kildare is as flat as a table, but I'll happily consider hilly steep terrain if there is any :)

I'm just wondering is there anywhere to cycle off road in Co Kildare, or more specifically around the Newbridge area? I'm sick of cycling on the main roads they are just boring as fcuk with nothing but cars whizzing past every few seconds, and the back roads are just too dangerous. I'd considered the curragh, but I don't know if it's worth while or even allowed?

I'm mainly doing this as cross training for my running, but I'm a bit injured at the moment so can't do any impact sports for a few weeks, and cycling is my primary secondary sport. Distance wise I'd probably be looking to do between 20 and 40 Miles 2-3 times a week until I'm able to get back on the hoof again. I'm not sure what other criteria might be useful but if I'm leaving anything out fire ahead and ask.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated, I'm desperate to do something as I'm going a little stir crazy not being able to run.

    Footpath... it's off road :D

Seriously though the curragh is probably your best bet, but i'll let any mtber's more qualified than myself. Does madmtb not have a forum or something?

yeah i see a lot of trails there in curragh that could be used and obviously have been. Also hollywood is only about 20 minutes away and some great routes there

I've cycled in moore abbey woods at monasterevin, only a small bit of single track and next to no gradient; I've heard talk that there might be trails around stradbally anyone been out there?

The canal towpaths would be good for getting some mileage in.
