    Yea i heard about 250/300

Academy 2 is the worst venue in Dublin. It's just awful. The stage is really low, so unless you're in the front row, you can't see the gig at all. To be honest, I wouldn't go see anyone there.

    Looks awesome. ^_^
The Academy 2 is... Certainly more intimate. It's tiny, it's more like a lounge than a venue. Especially since there's this big pole right in the middle of the floor that would completely destroy you if you happened to get flung into it during a pit. The intimacy of the venue is certainly the high point. I saw Skindred there back in March and that was good. It's so small that the band is actually under this arch to the side (I assume it was them anyway, who else would bring a laptop to a gig? O_o) and they had to go through the crowd to get onto the stage. The stage itself, like Mickolution said, is tiny. But not so tiny that you can't see the band from the back. Unless you're a foot tall.

Is this over 18's? I went on ticketmaster but it ain't working :/

    Yup, it is. :/
I think if a gig's in the Academy2, it's going to be over 18s due to the bar right at the back of the room.
Then again, I could be completely wrong. There are two bars in the main room...

    Ah pity :(
I've been to gigs in the Academy and they were all ok so I assumed it wouldn't be much different for Academy 2..

Bring Me The Horizon are too big to support Cancer Bats.

Which is crazy really. I'm only 16 aswell, i'm just gonna chance my arm for the sake of 13 euro. Hopefully pick up a fake id before hand aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭Ghostbusthat

    Gonna chance this too.
    They're my favourite band.
    I am so annoyed that it's 3 weeks before i'm 18 though!
    Fingers crossed i'll get in.

My favourite band too. Start asking them on Twitter see can they get us in, I met jay during the summer but lost his e mail....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,959 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

Can't go to this due to work rota, have so many gigs and only so many nights off :(:(

Tickets are up for sale here

    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=305246

    Below face value too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,959 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

I'm not having much luck selling these tickets and really don't want them to go to waste so i'm gonna give them away, i'm so pissed that i'm working and have tried everything to get the night off :(

If ya want them first person who posts them can have them

My only stipulation, to ensure they go to a real Rock/Metal fan, is that you have at least 30 posts in the Rock/Metal forum at the time i have posted this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Wow I'd love them! Although I will admit I don't post in R&M although I am a fan of metal :D

Can show you my room covered in posters to prove it!

Living in Westport it's a log way to travel for this gig so I'm not gonna bother unless I get in, what do people think are they really strict? I'll be 17 on the day. Does anybody have experience with the academy?

Eh when i went to Black Stone Cherry there a few years ago they didnt let in my friends because they didnt have ID (and they were all over 18) but every other gig ive been to there (apart from the Stereophonics Greatist Hits Gig but was before the BSC) i have never been asked

I've sent Scott a message on twitter, hopefully he'll sort something.

Would you say they'd accept an age card receipt as ID? One of my friends is thinking of going, but won't have her age card by then and has no other ID.

I wouldn't bother, like you said its the long way to travel and it is highly likely you will be asked to produce ID.

Does she not have a passport? An age card receipt is better than nothing but its not exactly acceptable ID... it could be anyone's receipt.

    Nah, she doesn't.
Yeah I know, I was just wondering what other people thought about it, cause some off licences and shops accept them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,132 ✭✭✭Just Like Heaven

Yeah The Academy only accept Gardai ID thing, passport or Driving License, so they don't have to Accept anything else. But I guess they might, If She's 18 go to the Gardai and get one of these things valid for one day. That's what the bouncers advice. And it's only like 6 euro and apparantly doesn't take too long.

I missed both support acts as I had to drive from Waterford to Cork to pick someone up and then straight to Dublin to catch the gig.

I'm not completely familiar with the lineup as in knowing names, etc ..... (I love Hail Destroyer, never heard the 1st album and have mixed feeling about the recent album) but ... one of the band (I think bass) was unable to be there and they had another guy stand in with only a day to learn a full set of songs so they played for around an hour.

The performance was full on and the crowd loved it and the band stayed around afterwards to chat and do photos with folks.

I wish someone more familiar with the band personnel and stuff would explain this more accurately than I can manage.

Really? I met The bassist Jaye, a couple of times and he was always really nice. That sucks.

I'm pleased they were good though.

    Next time :(

So annoyed I missed this show. Heard it was great, especially considering Mike wasn't there. Next time!
