Using Buggies in Competition

I played in the inter scratch cup in Esker hills yesterday, a lot of players using golf buggies, is that allowed in competition? Seems like it could be deemed an unfair advantage? Does anyone know the gui rule on this?

Not sure, but think you need a Medical Cert to be allowed to use them.

I've seen it occur in Open's and players were most definitely not on a medical cert. Doesn't bother me though, if someone wants to use a cart, I say, work away, sure doesn't a caddy carrying your bag or pulling your trolley also offer an advanatge and they ain't prohibited

Yeah, it wouldn't have bothered me before now and my issue is less to do with any advantage gained but with a side effect - in a hilly course like esker you are significantly quicker in a buggy than walking, there is also quite a long walk between some of the greens and the next tees, this meant that the group behind us in buggies were on top of us all of the way round, we were right behind the group ahead so there was no point letting them through, but this didn't prevent them from playing down on top of us on a couple of occassions!

did you ever use a pull trolley in esker hills? Torture. Barely had the strength in my arms to finish my round!!

BTW - what the course like there now? Keep meaning to call in for a round as i pass it every day.

I pulled the bag behind me the first time I played there, never again! Carried it on sunday, wasn't too bad, although motorised trolley is probably the way to go.

The course was in great nick, greens were quick but not scarily, a few holes where you have to be below the pin to have any chance.

I'd recommend the course, not sure about (some of) the members, as a precaution I'd bring a helmet!

The club has a GUI exemption that allows use of of golf buggies in all competitions.

You can use buggies in any competition you like, except GUI inter club competitions in which case you have to produce a medical cert to prove you actually need it.
