subjects to avoid in LL.B?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what are considered to be the most difficult modules offered on the LL.B. I will be doing the LL.B this year primarily as a means of getting onto the LL.M next year, so I will need to get at least a good second class honours degree. I know most law students find Land Law difficult and wondered if there are any other subjects offered on this course considered to be more challenging than others.
I'd be very grateful for any input.

I'd avoid Company, Equity and Jurisprudence as these are final year modules, and final years tend to work harder - however Company is useful for a lot of jobs.

Environmental seems fairly easy marks wise

a friend who did the FE-1s years ago (she didn't have a law degree) said she found Constitutional law difficult. Is it tricky at degree level? It seems there would be a lot to cover.

It depends what you want out of it. Is it the general LLM or the criminal justice one you intend to do? Do you want to practise? Tort, Constitutional, Criminal and Contract are first year subjects. Constitutional isnt overly difficult, and is going to have a new lecturer for next year ( *tear* No more Gwynny!) IT and Public International seem to be easy enough marks. And Welfare is meant to be a very short course. I wouldnt go near Land.

Just did my LLB in UCC this year. I did Welfare, Environmental, IT and Medical. Found them all fine. Welfare lecturer is really good and really helpful. would def reccomend that one especially. Enviro lecturers not as good or helpful. And do the dissertation. It'll be a lot easier learn 4 rather than 5 subjects during the month off.

Family law is another nice one, did than in 3rd year BCL. Don't do public international, very broad course with loads to cover for exam. (so my friend who did it told me, I was delighted I didnt do it.) EU is tough enough as well, I'd steer clear of it, and Land, Commercial and Constitutional the same. I also agree with ICantGetNoSleep re. Juris, Company and Equity. That's a lot to avoid I'm after realising!

Hope this helps! any more info send me a pm, since I'm just finished it I'd be happy to share.

I'm going into to final year BCL. Did environmental family and commercial. Environmental lectures were awful but the paper was marked ok. Family is a lovely subject and commercial is so broad and is marked hard. Don't know what to pick for subjects next year for my degree. I will probably do Company and was thinking about Financial Tranactions and Employment and Labour law.

Does anyone know what law of financial transactions and Employment and Labour law are like?

I did Labour but not Financial Transactions. Labour is fine, lectures were reasonably interesting, stuff was easy enough to learn I thought. You do things like unfair/fair dismissals, discrimination in the workplace, strikes, that kind of thing. Not bad at all, I quite liked it

Thanks yeah I think i'd like that. I want to pick subjects that i'd have an interest in rather than ones that i don't cause while i liked the subjects i did in 2nd year i wasn't overly enthused by them. The exams were ok though which was an upside. The reason I chose law was because of an interest in the small bit of employment legislation that is included in leaving cert business so i will definately do that subject anyway.

Thanks for your help, Cantabile. I'm interested in the LL.M in E-Law.

can anyone please tell me what the costs of texts and materials are when doing the LL.B? Can you get by just using class notes and library books? Law textbooks seem very expensive.
