Buying used car with no service history

I've seen a used car I'm really interested in, the only negative is that the dealer doesn't have the service history. I'm going to ring up the garage that serviced it last as the sticker is still on the car. I'm also going to get it checked out by an independent mechanic and the dealer has said that it will be fully serviced before it's sold, I'm going to get a full record of that service. I've done a motorcheck on it and nothing dodgy has shown up. The car passed the NCT last month. Is there anything else I could do to ensure this car is ok?

What car is it? Have you got a link to the ad? Some cars need a full service history more than others.

You want to buy a car without a service history that's probably been driven very hard? Madness imo.

Is the SH stored on the key like it is on BMWs?

SH isn't stored on keys in BMW's.. The mileage and certain other things are but definately not SH.

Mini's store the mileage in the key too

If your mechanic has the diagnostic equipment for a Mini ask him to hook it up and verify the mileage. Also check the VIN on the car against the VIN on the ECU. Some funny cars going around at the moment disguised as something they're not.

I'd be more worried about it not being serviced regularly as opposed to the mileage. There's no shortage of them for sale so I'd keep looking...
