If you are an Irish or British citizen you do not need a passport, unless of course you are travelling with Ryanair.

Then you had better get it renewed.

You plan to travel while your passport is still valid. No problem with that.

Wrong. Your passport will be valid for the time you're in the UK so you don't need to renew it.

OOps sorry I misread the expiry month as July. You have no worries.

What makes you think that your passport is invalid?

First, you don't need a passport at all to keep UK immigration happy -- although it is a useful thing to have.

Second, for any travel within the EU, you don't need any time on your passport beyond the scheduled end of your trip.

Your only "need" for a passport is for Ryanair. They haven't yet though of penalising passengers for having almost-but-not-quite-expired passports.

Is it the same case for traveling to the USA, e.g If I wanted to travel to New york from the 1st to the 7th of August but my passport was out of date on, say the 20th of August, would this be allowed:confused:

Yes, once you are travelling under the visa wavier program your passport only needs to be in date for the period of travel.
