    Hi

I've just come back from hols and notice that a couple of the CBS channels plus Euronews and the BBC multiscreen comes up with a "No or bad signal" on my Freesat Humax. I've retuned and powered off/on but still the same thing. Is this local to me or is this a general problem at the moment?

I seem to have a similar problem. We're getting Astra 28 signals through a cheapie "silvercrest" box and a satellite dish I scrounged. It has been working very well for over a year, and our only other problems were when a join in the coax failed, and once when the wind blew the dish askew. A few days ago the signals from BBC and Euronews and a few others deteriorated. They come and go, mostly go. Others like ITV are fine. I wonder what gives? There could be several problems at my end, including foliage growth on the hill above, but is it possible it is the satellite signal itself? Are you using Astra?

Cause of poor signal in order of probability:

    Dish is out of alignment

Damaged cable by water ingress or short circuit.

    Faulty LNBF
    Faulty Receiver

    Faulty satellite

Thanks. Turns out it was some problem with the dish. All fixed now :)

Apogee is right, and in my case I inspected a join in the co-ax, which had some very minor corrosion on the inner core. This must have been sufficient to degrade the signal. Cleaned, it works again, though the solution is obviously to replace with longer wire.
Once, after a very windy night, our dish was mis-aligned. Since I don't like making a habit of being on the roof, I torqued down pretty hard on the bolts holding the dish to the bracket yoke. It would take quite a wind to shift it. Could happen.
    Thanks, Apogee
