    Hi Guys,

My dad wants to get a new tv and channels so I was looking into the free-to-air option and was wondering could anybody give me some advice on what package to go for and any advice on who could supply and install it for me (im based in galway)? Im just looking for a basic package that is easy to operate for my dad. Also he says it has to have the irish channels rte etc so how do i get round this?

any help would be very greatly appriciated..

    thanks a million

    cormac

A good system would be to get a combo box such as the Mvision ..which will give you the FTA satellite channels, and when combined with a terrestrial aerial will also give you the RTE channels on the one box...another method would be to get a tv that has an MPEG4 tuner, and also a FREESAT tuner, Panasonic and Sony have a number of tvs that have this feature...

Be careful not to mix the FREESAT with the FREEVIEW system which is used in the Uk and which would be of no use to you in Galway...

Thnaks for the info, if i got the tv with the mpeg4 tuner and the freesat tuner would that mean i wouldnt need a dish and box and installation? and if so is this set up just as good as sat and box?

    thanks again for your help

Regardless of what system you go for i.e. a combo box or a tv with built in MPEG4 tuner and Satellite tuner, you will need a dish to be erected on your property, in order to receive the fta channels such as bbc, itv etc...you will also need a terrestrial aerial erected in order to receive the 4 irish terrestrial channels should you wish to receive them..
