Creaking steering on Peugeot

I have a 10 year old 206, just gone through its NCT fine, but the last couple of weeks, the steering has started creaking or grinding, esp when stationary or at low speeds, and it's getting louder, although you can only hear it in the car, not under the bonnet (Can hear what sounds like puffs of air when turning the steering, from under the bonnet, like a pump is working)

Any ideas, and also ideas of cost (from google searches, getting lots of links to people having to replace strut mounts, etc)???

Happened mine. Check your power steering reservoir and all the piping.
