yes , they usually gain weight and get lazy when they loose their:eek:i've only ever seen one good hunting dog post removal and that one was out beating three times a week .
Why do you want to cut him? aggression!!

really oh thats a pity...he is a whippet x though is it different with sightdogs than gundogs?

he would cetainly burn off enough excess fat withcthe amount of arsing around he does!

Nah bo agression he is an ould eejit we want to get into breeding and dont relish the thought of having 5/6 jack russel x this eejit running around the place!

Would you see this as a problem?...having an unneutured dog with a bitch...i know we could seperate when she comes in heat but my fear is he might cop it before we do!

it would depend on how big the whippet x was and how small the jr bitch was ;)
no on a serious note you'd notice the fact she's coming into season and be able to prevent an unwanted mating easily enough i would think

The dog is 24.5 inches and i suppose we would be looking for a miniture jr bitch i think around 8 inches.
When it is noticeable that she is in heat how soon after this will she be fertile? or whatever the term is..Is it immediately or will we have time to seperate them?

No it will not effect its performance in the field, may put on some weight just watch his diet, I have always neutered my dogs if not using them for breeding for the past 30yrs never effected their performance

You could get a vasectomy done on the dog. Not that difficult to do. He would still have his testicles but he would be infertile. You wouldn't have to worry about possible loss of hunting drive. The ideal solution to your problem.
