Mate of mine asked me to come to his farm and get ride of crows that are disturbing him around his garden, i.e. destroyed kiddies paddling pool etc. I was there early in the morning - waiting in cover with my .22 - but of course they don't show up when you are waiting for them

What is the best way to get them? What time of day? Bait?

You cant shoot in the vacinity of a hospital JW:D
Be there for dawn, if there as bad as you say there shouldnt be need for bait.
    Couple of decoys might help.

Throw out a couple of crow decoys. Actually mightened work with a 22, they might just circle overhead

I'll try with the patience first - have a good spot in the woods overlooking the garden

are they crows or rooks , rooks around a house will have been noisy up till the last week or so rearing the young most of those have now left the nest and disppersed , with the weather we had up until recently they were probably washing and drinking from the paddling pool now its rained that too will cease

Ideally you need a shotgun, a crow call and a decoy for his job.

The only way your going to be able to shoot them with the .22 is if they land.

Shoot a rabbit cut it in two and put one half in front of the decoy and the other piece on its own, give a few caws on the crow call and you should have crows and magpies coming in. They'll see the food on the ground and will fly down to it.

However your only going to get one chance at this, they're crafty and don't take long to work out what's happening.

Grey crows are the problem - 5-6 of them. Got only one rook today, landed at the range of my .22 :D - will go back to get the grey ones.

Then a larger than normal Larsen trap will clean up grey crows. Ladder traps will also work, but I prefer Larsens due to the smaller size of the trap.

for a large amount of crows a ladder trap works best .

Jaysus lads they are huge, I have magpies ~6 in my back yard and can't be shot due to cunning and safety reasons

That look more like a chicken coup :D
